Btw it's a really cheap detector it just detects metal it doesn't know the difference between a bottle cap or a quarter

interesting. so they are not the same metal, whatever they are.
i guess it depends on your detector settings and what it is set to detect.
most detectors have a setting specifically tuned for finding gold/silver.
Since brass is an alloy of copper, zinc, etc, it might ring up on a different setting.

at first glance i think maybe they are "leftovers" from a CNC machining operation.
then again, i'm trying to imagine what someone would have been machining to end up with these shapes as the leftovers

then again, those pieces somewhat remind me of the individual cutting bits on a chainsaws chain

How many "X"s?
Did it feel balanced before you took it apart?

Please bare with me on this. if we assume the edge i highlighted here with green, to be the "base" edge of each respective pentagram shaped face, then the "C" is upside down and backwards.
the "X" is universal relative to the vertical axis, so it doesn't tell us which way is intended to be "right side up", if any.
Though if we assume the vertex opposite the green highlighted edge is to be the "base", the "C" is then right side up and the universal "X" doesn't conflict with said vertex being used as the base.
Just trying to make sense of the "X" and the "C"
if they were numbers i would still say it was some kind of gaming die. but just the two letters potentially make it a purely binary system of chance. its either an "X" or a "C"

okay after seeing additional pics. it appears that the letters are "right side up" when the vertex is pointing down.
using this orientation, if we inscribe a 5 pointed star inside the pentagon we get a, upside down 5 pointed star, or,... a pentagram!

If I had to guess I'd say a miniatures wargame of some type; the letters could represent different events that strike your army, and I could imagine folks taking their figurines innawoods to play. Good terrain for the battle without having to build it, but the major risk is losing your stuff, like this die's original owner did. But I can't tell you what rules set they were using.
