I picked myself up a new pair of hiking boots, WindRiver Lefroy, pic related.
I've broken them in by going on a few good hikes, but for some reason the right shoe persistently irritates the top of my foot, right where the foot meets the shin, and after a good 15km hike it hurts like a bitch.
Anyone know how to help this? I've never had this issue with any other boots

throw them away, buy different boots

But I just spent my entire annual boot budget on them
I got a similar problem with my malleoli, you could try keeping upper string little loose and using a different kind of socks

cut off your foot

well that was a bad decision, wasn't it?

There's several different ways to lace hiking boots. Have you tried them? There are some good videos out there.

Check if the "flap" is somehow bent over itself or wrinkled. And lace the boots in a different way.
Try to remove the sole, if it's detachable. It might give more room for the shoe.

OP i found I had this exact same problem when I went to Nepal in my current hiking shoes. I was extremely worried because we were trekking that day and my foot was still sore on top.
I looked online and saw recommendations to try ladder lacing, and it worked great. So now I only have my right shoe laced that way but I haven't had a problem since I switched lacing styles.
give it a go and if it doesn't work, new boots.
