They were introduced.

Where in CT?
>>
>>1041321
They've been here for years and years, chances are you're fishing in one of the ct river tributaries tends to be where they're found the most
>>
>>1041414
And I've fished the Mississippi for years and years, and it's had bowfins for millennia upon millennia due to being part of their native range, and I've never caught one.

It's all luck honestly, and how you're targeting them,
I've caught them in places they were never before recorded here in CT
So that's pretty neat
>>
>>1041321
theyve been introduced into the connecticut river drainage system, and housatonic river drainage system in1980-1986 as well as scoville resivoir in 96

I've tried it all, and have spent many days trying to target them specifically in the Mississippi River.

Soft swimbaits, live shiners, live shad, cut bluegill, bass jigs, inline spinners, roadrunners, crankbaits, haven't even had a suspected bowfin strike. Instead I get smallies, sauger, and channel cats.

I've been fishing here and the Connecticut River for years and I've never seen one caught one or even heard anybody speak of them
>>

This. Why are they so damn elusive?
Many years ago I caught 3 in one evening. Just screwing around with a crawler under a bobber. All within an hour. Never caught one since.
>>
>>1041607
Different anon but I fucking knew that's where it's be
>>1041610
I've seen a handful pulled out of some of the coves (wethersfield) when ice fishing
I've seen them be caught in the spring at a different cove off the ct river nearby
And I've heard plenty about them being caught exactly where op caught his
>>
Going out to a different location sometime this weekend that's known to have bowfin, let's see if I can target and catch one or two
