Hello Friends,
I have been into bushcraft for almost 20 years and, surprisingly, just found out about /out/ one month ago! I have seen some threads about batoning, which is one of my favorite ways to split wood in a minimalist bushcraft situation.
It truly is an art and, while I broke two knives when I first started, if you have proper guidance and put in the time to gain experience, you'll realize how superior it actually can be (depending on the situation). I was very disappointed to see posts denigrated batoning as a joke or "meme", it's simply not true.
I have been seriously considering starting a non-profit organization for the online teaching of bushcraft, specifically batoning, machete use, and other blade-related bushcraftery.
I just want to gauge what the enthusiasm would be for a nascent National Association for Machete and Batoning Learning and Activities (tentative name). Any suggestions are welcome, I'm going to look into purchasing a domain shortly.
Thanks and what a great community this is!

>hitting your knife with a stick
>not tying your knife to a stick to make a hatchet
You can't baton with a sub $500 dollar knife anything less than s3v scandi grind and expect it not to break when you baton it with your axe.
>>1037782
I seriously get warm tingly feelings when I see somebody post a meme that I made. This pleases me to an absurd degree.
>>1037785
I rate it Batonny/10
Nice bushcuckery. Keep up the good work n break more knives.
>>1037766
>this wood is obviously bad
XD
>o no im bleedin

Why is first aid this challenging?
>>1037818
Sure sure it's cute but get over it lad
>>1037907
Oh God, I screamed.
>>1037907

carbon v cols steel srk
or
fallkniven f1
It's pretty pointless, just take an axe with you. Knives are for cleaning game and light bushcraft.
>>1037953
I have a fallkniven f1, it's fucking brilliant. The blade does get microchips when boning out game.
what the fuck is 'batoning'
>>1037975
What the fuck is Google
>>1037975
it's a way to destroy a perfectly good knife
>>1037975
An amazing survival skill that every bushkekker should know.
>>1037979
>it's a way to destroy a perfectly good knife
i have to beg to differ. if the knife is destroyed it was not a remotely good knife. it had bad design crap steel and crap heat treat.
>>1037982
It is tool abuse.
>>1037985
your mother beating you is tool abuse
>>1037999
Why are you angry and defensive, anon?
>>1037913
IT WUZ FOR A SURVIVALZ SITCHUACHION.
>>1037975
as far as I can tell it's a competition on youtube where goys try their best to brake their knives using logs, rocks and axes. Honorable mentions are given to those who get the knife stuck in a log.
>>1037999
Lol, nice one anon. Bazinga.
Froe Association when?
>>1037908
But it makes me so happy. Do you want me to stop being happy? What a monster you are.

>>1037981
Funniest part is that he hits that knife with a fucking axe. Fansub is probably not far off.
>>1038126
Find out he is just trolling people, laughing as all the autistic fucks, sperg out over what he does.
>>1038132
That did look like one of those more expensive "batoning" knives. Troll or not, the guy in the video is a retard.
>>1037766
Cucked by a log lmao

It's to show how retarded these fags are, when you have an axe but still want to use the knife.
>>1038299
khuk'd you might say
>>1038388
Link?
>>1037754
Why would you split wood in the woods. Why wouldn't you just grab wood that was the right size for the job
>>1037786
You don't need to chop that piece
>>1038393
But it is winter and it is raining for 3 years straight and all the small wood is wet and frozen because everything is submerged under a lake now and and and and and and....
>>1037810
https://youtu.be/6FzvWYZ7mw0 this thing is amazing
Batoning to me seems like a very intuitive strategy, as it saves you the need for carrying a hatchet. One less tool: sounds good!
...but I've broken too many knives batoning... Never again!
>>1038810
That sucks. I been batoning for yrs, daily wood processing in the fall and winter time for my wood stove, I've never had an issue uanless it was a stick or rat tail tang.
>>1037754
Why Baton?
You forgot or broke your axe thats it.
It puts too much stress on a blade for every day use.
>>1038836
>batoning for yrs, daily wood processing
>>1037754
>be /out/
>got knife and hatchet
>need to make a fire
>start batoning some logs with axe and knife
>sparks start flying everywhere when hitting the knife with the axe head
>sparks land on dry leaves everywhere
>SUDDENLY FIRE EVERYWHERE
I just fucking ran and didn't look back (left my iPhone. The paper said something like 30 acres burned and that it was possibly started when a smartphone battery exploded. *pokerface*
>>1038867
I warm my house up by fire wood, so yes, I do it daily. Batoning is nothing new, has been in books since the 1920s. Go be a retard else where, faggot.
>>1039115
>batoning enough to heat your house in winter
You are so full of shit, kid.
>>1038299
lmao
>>1038796
is it actually any good or just a stupid meme
>>1037975
Hello newfriend how are u today
>>1037818
Make sure to post about it in every thread
>>1039115
>daily
what idiot cuts wood daily for the house?
you're supposed to cut a bunch in summer/spring so it dries out for winter
what gives you incentive to lie on the internet?
>>1037766
Faggot doesn't know he needs to hit the wedge with the edge of the ax.
>>1039238
you can cut pizza and apples with it and branches not thicker than your fingers.
>>1039833
Okay.
>>1037818
i made this one, it has not been widely adopted but i seen some reposts and adaptations.
>>1037754
Maybe register bait.com or some-people-baton-get-over-it.org?
>>1037975
The application of your knife as a wedge to split wood that is of much smaller diameter than your knife blade length.
If you are a spaghetti armed sperg, like the fucker living in Ohio pasting these bait threads, and you can't just push the knife through manually, you apply more force by using another piece of wood to knock on the knife used as an edge.
>>1037754
why not just get a hatchet?
>>1040150
That's cheating
>>1040150
you can baton a hatchet no problems
