Was he a fat acceptance guy? I thought this whole thing was him trying to lose weight. I only watched a couple minutes of his "final thoughts" video though.
>>
>>1035198
How many days did it take him to do the 15 miles? I have no desire to watch a fatty on youtube i hate every idiot vblogger i ever watched. But if he was fat and untrained and did 15 miles with a pack in a day i would be impressed.

"Look at me I researched a lot of hippie blogs before doing this!"

I'm thru hiking the AT once I finish my bachelor, taking a full half year for it. I swear to god if I meet a single person talking about trail magic or wanting to give me trail names I'll start swinging.
>>

Because every goddamn blog is full of hipster shit like this.

Well it's a shame that the hipsters have taken over the AT, but "trail magic" and trail names predate hipsters by a long ways, and they're straight-up part of hiking the AT.

The funny part is that there are a fair amount of "scary, hunting, redneck" types who through hike, or have a deep admiration for thru hikers.

Not everybody eats a half gallon, not everybody takes a rock with them. If you don't want to do it, don't do it. Nobody will care.

It does take a special kind of asshole to get all worked up and start piping all his bullshit opinions about things. Who the fuck cares about your negative attitude?

The best part is that everyone else- thru hikers and non thru hikers alike- are going to be happy and enjoying life while you hold on to your shitty opinions.

Yeah sorry dude but you just earned your trail name, you are now officially

FIGHTING PEACOCK.

If you don't want to deal with trail magic, hipsters, trail names, and other wierd transitions, then DON'T FUCKING THRU HIKE THE AT.

Do the CDT, or north country trail, or a few others like the Florida trail, Arizona trail, John Muir Trail, long trail, finger lakes trail, ect ect.

The AT is not exactly known for its solitude. The tail magic and social aspect of the AT is exactly why it's now so popular.

If you want to be left alone, hike somewhere else.

>>
>>1035414

>>

>I'll start swinging

>>
>>1035261
>it's been four miles

Most of the trail has access to towns and such within that range so that's not bad really. The north section is where things are just wilderness instead of semi-shaded redneck suburbia. The southern 2/3s of the AT is highly overrated.
>>
>>1035420

>decided to make it a shakedown

Kek. I agree the AT is pretty brutal physically I only managed 75 miles before my body and mind broke down (in my 40s) but it was so exhausting I couldn't eat. this guy had a new ailment every day but I think what broke him was that last day he hiked he had to slide down the mountain on his ass as he was too fat to negotiate the boulders. At least he got out and tried tho

Tuscarora_Trail.gif

>>1035512
It used to be much more wild, but development really took it's toll. During the uninhibited growth and suburbanization of DC the 60's and 70's, it was thought that the trail was going to be straight up paved over. The trail conservancy and some other groups banded together and bought up bits of woods in VA, WV and PA and constructed the Tuscarora Trail as a sort of "plan B" for when the original trail was no longer wild.

If you wanted to, you could do that hike instead and be in a much more wild area. One of the big complaints about the Tuscarora is that parts of it are so infrequently traveled, people have trouble following the trail.
>>
>>1035384
Who gives a fuck? You don't wanna spend $180 on a stick, then don't. Some faggot hipster will. Oh noes! One hipster jewed another hipster, what a tragedy. Or, now hear me out, YOU could be the one selling the ridiculously expensive sticks to the hipsters. Sounds like a profitable scenario to me.
>>
>>1035539
Making sense on an Appalachian stick craving trail log is forbidden.
>>
>>1035229
Now feel free to call me mean names but I always thought trail names extended past dumb hippy stuff. Like isn't it just a matter of safety not to give your real name to strangers while traveling through the woods? I figured trail names were just a safety precaution.
>>
>>1035589
If you read the blogs, you'll see plenty of stories where people who didn't use trail names found a jar of fermented farts waiting for them at home.

Some got murdered too, but the fart jars is more common.

You may think its just a practical joke but if you receive a fart jar a killer could be in your house already.

The fart jar is to make your guardian wood spirit guide leave your side.
Once the jar is opened, the spirit gets a whiff off that ass gas and fucks right off.
Now you have no protection from black trail magicians. (The magic is black, not the magician)

After the jar is opened, the killer magician comes in, knocks you out and cuts your butthole out with scissors from a Swiss Army Knife. Sometimes he uses nail clippers.
Then he pulls all your 3.7 yards of inestines out like a [trail] magician pulling a handkerchief out of his sleeve.

Some would say people "enjoy" the outdoors in different ways.

But I think most just like the idea of it, not the experience itself.
That's why they take to the stupid mythology so much.
They'd probably enjoy a VR hiking simulator more than actual hiking.

The real outdoors without trails and food drops, and safety nets is practically a different reality.

Murdering bushy tailed tree niggers with pellet guns is something most people want to avoid at all cost.
That cost being $14 or whatever a sibgle organic vegan gourmet dehydrated camping meal is priced at.
>>
>>1035337
Scary hunting redneck here. Where you at boy? Let's go trapping.
>>
the trail kicked his twinkie eating ass and now he will milk his fat cunt to skinny cunt transformation another year then the trail will beat him again
>>
>>1035615
I agree with you 100%

This is an anecdotal example, I go running in 10lb forest fire boots and heavy blue jeans. I run with friends who all wear proper running attire. We all run the same pace. We do a few miles around a 6 minute pace. The thing is, any time I put on my running shoes and a pair of jorts, I absolutely smoke them. I start getting near 4 minutes flat on my mile. Sure it's hard, people would call it dumb. But wearing boots and jeans every day of my life and doing hard things while wearing them absolutely puts me far ahead of basically anybody that isn't a gifted athlete.
