Fishing discussion specific to Ireland! The fishing general is largely about fishing for American species which we don't have.
Recent catches? Planned trips?
Next week I'm going to the north of Donegal for a few days beach fishing, using crab bait targeting dabs and plaice and flounder close in with a two hook paternoster rig, and using a second rod at longer range a sandeel on a running ledger.
I'll also have a spinning rod set up. Should be in with a chance of bass and mackerel too.
Recently I've caught a lot of rays, it seems to be that time of year when they're everywhere.

'murrica here but I have fished briefly in Ireland.
Your freshwater species can be caught on the same shit as American fish--I took a 6' medium spinning rod and caught pike and trout in the various ponds and lakes of County Kerry.

Generally trout fishing remains constant, but you have many things we don't. I have no idea about crappies, bluegills, snakeheads, smallmouth or largemouth bass, pickerel, panfish.
Whilst similar tackle can sometimes be used, you also have a lot of different things unavailable here. There is no Walmart, and the only Dicks we have here are hanging between men's legs.

How did so many people starve in the potato famine in a nation surrounded by water?

Pike are pike, and pickerel are just smaller pike.
You have perch, which is a panfish (we also have several species of perch, as well as a gorillion other panfish). You also have "common bream" (yet another perch) and shad/chubs, which act close enough to panfish (will eat just about anything, and are aggressive/easily caught).
Some of your larger southern lakes have introduced catfish, including the Wales catfish; there's been an effort to introduce smallmouth bass, although I don't know if it's been successful (haven't heard about it in 20 years).

Largest in America was 38" and 24lbs. Largest in Ireland was 20" and I didn't weigh it, but I only got about 8 days' total fishing for them there.
