Free solo climbing is by far the most dangerous thing you can do in this life. It's stupidly dangerous.

i'm assuming you mean over dangerous routes? that may be close, but when you fall you can at least try and catch the slack line, climbing is you fall you die

Maybe if you are just random normie, alex honnold is one of, if not the best, climbers in the world.

Having been at the same wall as Honnold a couple of times, there were several people there trying to chat him up once he wrapped up for the day, including hot /out/ types chicks. Any time anyone sees him on a climb word gets out and people show up to watch.
No doubt he could pick one on any given day give her a cocktour of his bus-home.

So 25 basejumpers died in 2016 worldwide and 26 climbers died in the US and Canada in 2013
Looking for a more detailed, per capita, year for year analysis comparing the two though
>>1031294
per capita would be pretty hard to say, i'd say more amateurs 'free solo' because it doesn't take any gear and are more inclined to fail at it. If you're base jumping, you've already got the gear and probably some experience.

yeah true, and listen to the podcast he did with joe rogan, he said that he only take calculated risk
I'd feel comfortable saying that more people have died cleaning windows than free soloing in the last 50 years. So window cleaning.

You've already summoned the retards saying less people have died doing (x) without considering the population of each activity respectively so might as well consider the thread over. It will only devolve from here.

>>1031294
A ton more people climb than base jump, 7.2 million climbers in the us (source: a guy who works at the access fund who I met in Bishop recently), so that fact combined with your numbers means base jumping is WAY MORE DANGEROUS. Another statistic I've heard for base jumping is one death per 600 jumps, which to me is a crazy high risk. I'm a climber, that's my perspective. Never done any really intense soloing, little highball bouldering.
>>1031172
I used to freesolo a lot as a teenager.
I climbed flatirons 1,2, and 5 in boulder CO without a rope. Pretty easy stuff.
I also did a 5.11 in Coal creek canyon that i had never done before. I wasent in a very good headspace before the attempt. It was basically suicidal. IF I fell I wouldn't really care too much.
Did my last free solo at age 16. Now I just boulder because I have nobody to climb with.

Probably motorcycling in the US in any urban setting. At least with free climbing, it's as safe as you are skilled. But with motorcycling, your life is in the hands of the mentally ill pill poppers that scourge the country.
Maybe they'll plow you from behind at a stoplight while looking at their phone, but more than likely they'll murder you with their car on account of their narcissism and uncontrollable tantrums.
>>1031172
Underwater caving probably doesn't cause that many fatalities, but it has all the dangers of caving and scuba diving combined. Sounds like some scary shit.
>>1032731
It's most dangerous for a number of reasons. You're belaying yourself, not someone else so if you hit your head you're fucked. People forget to knot the rope ends and rap off them. People screw up and don't put themselves on rap before the belayer takes them off belaying and they fall. There's a bunch of things that can go wrong between the time you get to anchor and when you get to the ground. When you're climbing there's two people looking out for you, yourself and your belayer. When you're rappelling, it's just you.

Hey /out/, so I've been bouldering for about 2 years at my local rock gym. They also have some nice top rope walls. I have no problem with heights, but I am worried about the condition of the ropes there. A gym in my state just shut down because a kid got paralyzed when a rope snapped. I checked what I could at my gym condition wise and the ropes look ok. The top rope is just on a chain on a carabiner attached to the ceiling. It looks pretty shady.
There are no pads underneath the high walls, it's concrete (for whatever fucking reason.) I just don't feel confident in their equipment. Whenever I climb I use my own shit that I know is in perfect condition. I have no idea if they have been using the same ropes for years. I have no idea if there is any damage to their ropes. Anyone else deal with something like this? Is it worth risking being paralyzed by using their shady equipment?

How has no one mentioned freediving/skindiving? It's just purposefully playing chicken with death. The only way you could possibly make it more dangerous would be to free dive a cave or something.

You only need to go /out/ in Bosnia where during 2014 the major floods and landslides unearthed and scattered the landmines from known minefields in new and interesting places.
