Walking sticks/Staves

The forest floor is full of them. I pick one up when I enter the woods and I leave it there when I exit.

I get it. I know a lot of mushroom hunters have custom sticks, but I can't be bothered to tend to one. I'd wind up forgetting it at home or in the woods or something.

I tend to grab one as I go but I've been wondering for a while how to treat the wood and stop it from splitting if I find a really good one. Also, hardening and capping the end so it doesn't break/split.

Any woodworking fags here?

found this badboy on the first of an eight day trek, started out straight as an arrow and ended up bent double. that stick saved me from all sorts of trouble though, i miss him sometimes yknow

I cut these vines the other day and i want to make them stiff so i can use them as a mock walking staff, only problem is they are very bendy, how can i harden them without making them brittle?

I made this from an oak tool handle bought at Home Depot. It has a leather grip wrapped around it, and the bottom is capped with a brass pipe fitting. It's dense and sturdy enough to be used as a defence weapon against people and animals, and its length allows me to use it as the spine of my tarp shelter. I've hiked for about 100 miles with it and it's barely showing any wear.
