you wouldn't expect it from a cat but this little duffer follows me everywhere like a dog. whenever i head-out in the woods for a walk or a campout she comes along and keeps an eye on things. there are a few spots in the back acres where she'll get bogged down in the ferns or brambles so i'll carry her through, but sometimes she finds logs and trees to climb over to get through and keep up with me. sometimes she'll fall behind or run off somewhere trying to catch a chipmunk or something, but eventually she'll come running through the scrub like a bolt of lightning and catch back up with me.
>>
>>1027152
does she kill or just chase?
>>
>>1027166
she kills about 4 things a day from what i've seen. moles, mice, chippies, squirrels, rabbits, birds, frogs, and snek. sometimes all that's left are feathers or some innards on the doorstep, sometimes it's a massacre of half-dead critters flopping slowly in circles with broken legs and half their faces gnawed-off. she's a fucking bitch.

Odie is a pretty good trail doggo; he gets tired out kinda quickly cause he'll run ahead a ways then come back over and over again.

He ends up walking probably 2x as far as me at least
>>
>>1027284
How slow are you walking and how poorly trained is your dog that it is not just trotting at your side while you travel and then doing its thing at camp? People like you with poorly trained animals are an annoyance on the trail. Please leash your animal if it doesn't know how to stay with you.

relax. Dogs like to go off and smell things. My dog never goes farther then 10 feet and comes when called.
>>
>>1027306
Ridgeback is just newest meme dog. Many better trail dogs out there. Although a fine animal nevertheless.
>>
>>1027307
I understand about dogs and liking to smell things. And if your dog actually knows to stay within a range and come when called it's better than most out there who say as much and potentially believe it but really don't have a trained animal.

The issue I have with range allowances is that the dog generally feels like they have free reign within that zone. While encountering others (often with their own animals) the dog has no problem in running up to them and investigating. And once a dog is interested in something, it needs to be really well trained to be able to reliably call it to heel.

That's the problem with halfway training in general. The owner develops a false sense of confidence in the control of their animal and is always shocked when they dont listen.

He is actually incredibly well-trained you presumptuous mongrel; i spent a long time training him. Did you ever stop to consider that some people only "loose leash" walk their dogs if their dogs are well-behaved? All i have to do is whistle or say his name once and he comes running right back. Also, if i tell him to stay behind/beside me while walking (by telling him "stay" while we're walking and holding my hand out in a "stop" gesture) he will until he is "released." But, I'm sure the phrase "case by case" is completely lost on you.

>how slow are you
I walk fairly briskly, but (in case you didn't know this) dogs have twice as many legs, and generally move faster than humans. Wow.

Yeah she is. The story of how she became our cat is a good one actually! She was a stray taht we'd see snooping around the property sometimes, but never came near people. One day there was a sudden commotion down in the basement, sounded like some burglar was down there and tripped over a bunch of stuff making a racket. I went down there cautiously and you won't fucking believe what I saw.

This fucking little bitch chasing a squirrel around the basement. How did they get there you ask?? The ash trap for the furnace was open and there was soot everywhere, uncluding all over the cat. She fucking chased a squirrel onto the roof of the house and chased it down the chimney and ended-up in the basement. And thus, she became our cat.

I went hiking with my doggo in the woods and on a trail she found something to roll in. I called her over and immediately smelled it and tried to wipe the leaves and what looked like paper off her shoulder.

Turns out it was human feces and toilet paper that I then had all over my pants and gloves. Thanks Bailey!

Nice, how old?

Mine is 1,5 years old. Can't really keep him of leash because he chases moose and rabbits and shit and does not listen to me, but I'm working on that.

Pic from a couple weeks ago after a 15 km hike. He goes on full speed when we're out and then the lights go out when we get home/to the car. Anyone else familiar with this behaviour?

Yep, most my dogs have been collie crosses, and pretty much all of them have been like that. However, it doesn't take long for their energy to spike again.

Pic related, this is Ryoko, named after Ryoko Tamura. Her dad was a border collie, her mum was a massive mix of about 6 different terriers.

No pics but I have a border collie black lab mix. Basically a smaller black lab that never stops running and would follow me to the end of the earth. The vet said no matter how much I run her she will never be tired, I've never seen her not full of energy and ready to run at a moments notice. Difficult trail puppy but god I would die for her. Only 8 months old :3 found her running in circles at the pound six months ago. Her info said she was found on a farm chasing cows

thats just what irresponsible cat owners tell themselves. Cats should be banned as pets anyways, unless you have a giant house since letting them outside is not an option.
