Yes, it greatly hinders function.

No, they're not at all useful for breaching. They don't weigh enough for serious chopping, are generally tempered too hard/brittle for chopping the junkmetal/stone/adobe/mudwall found in doorframes and doors in the Middle East and trailer parks because "muh supa steel", and don't have the lateral strength to pry with.

Their SOLE purpose is to look cool.
