Do muslin sheets a good towel substitute when hiking?

I have successfully done this in the past when interrailing across Europe. The muslin sheets are cheap, light, fold into a very small space, and I can use one dishcloth-sized sheet to dry most of my body.

I do not have much experience of multi-day hikes. I am going to do one in summer with some mates. I cannot think of a good reason why muslin sheets would not work in this situation either, but they insist I should bring a travel towel?

I use a microfiber towel, which come in sizes S-XXL, from Decathalon, for under a tenner. It packs up smaller than a cotton hand towel and dries my entire body.

Muslin is cotton, so have fun with it taking ages to dry

Yeah and muslins are just a bunch of terrorists anyway.

Packtowel make great towels, they really aren't that expensive and pack down small and are light. They also dry super fast which is key. They only reason I would use one over muslin sheets is the drying time.

This. My 15 year old REI camptowel is still going strong. Dries me effectively, packs down to nothing, and dries itself super-fast.

I used to have a microfiber towel, it was neato

but I ended up just using a quick-drying hiking shirt as a towel, rinsing it after use and hanging it on my bag

it's just one less bullshit to deal with

Nice idea! I like having my towel though to make a kilt if I go swimming or have to wash all my clothes.
