Was able to reel in n get my hook n lead back tho. Rod was a medium heavy rod from wally world for 20ish$

My current rod is one that i caught from thw bottom of a lake. It was in suprisingly good cobdition.

I found a blue Shimano hat hanging from a branch by a spinner and some fishing line

The most obvious scenario is that somebody hooked their buddy's hat while casting and snagged it in a tree but that sounds kind of hard to believe

This is what happens when noobs put higher pound test line than the rod is rated for. Your rod will snap before your line. I would rather lose a few bucks in tackle than my $90 rod.

This happened to me when I was a kid, best friend went to cast while standing next to me and the hook got me in the middle of my lower back. Luckily it went in and out so we could cut the barb off and slide it out. To this day I'm paranoid as fuck around people casting. That hurt like a son of a bitch.
