Can you go to France or Germany or is it too much trouble on weekends? Never been to Europe but I've heard it's easy to travel between EU countries and the public transportation is supposedly good. I get why you wouldn't want to spend 8+ hours on travel during your weekend though. Also supposedly Angeles NF has been cleaned up somewhat from the way it was 10 years ago, but there are probably other anons here from LA who can say whether it's good or whether you'll get run over by drunk thugs while trying to hike.

The mid inland section of Queensland is mainly grass lands or dry forests which is what we refer to as "the bush", as it gets closer to NT it becomes more and more desert like
