I want to learn to play a musical instrument, preferably one I can take on camping trips without much effort. I was thinking maybe a harmonica but I'm not crazy about the sound. Any suggestions?
maybe some sort of flute or a mbira, both are pretty compact and I'd imagine durable
Maybe a penny whistle?
Surely you can fit one in your bag, they are cheap and light, pic related.
A mouth harp could also be fun in the outdoors.

Penny whistle's good but I reckon a tin whistle is betta'. You can play Anon's Happy Floote and also this

Throat vocalizations and scatting (not the poop kind) to keep your hands free
Hamboning
Tin whistle as mentioned

Harmonica is portable, has a nice sound, and has plenty of resources for learning to play

It's the /out/ists instrument of choice.
I made this in Japan.
Yet to learn how to play it though.

Yeah, quite a few people don't like the sound. But if you do it makes a great /out/ companion
Harmonicas are good. If i ever go camping with the family I bring along my guitar... not really easy to take tho. Ukuleles or violins are smaller alternatives to that. Also, /ocarinas/
Anyone here really good at whistling, without a flute of some sort?
I brought my mountain dulcimer camping once. I wrapped it in bubble wrap and spare clothes, then put it in a gun case that strapped to my pack. I set up camp and did my day loops, even found a better turkey quill to play it with while hiking. It was pretty light, if it didn't have sentimental value I'd bring it /out/ again. Does that count?

I am the best whistler I know. Lately I have been practicing bird mimics.
This annoying little fucker. I have an okay singing voice but minimal musical knowledge.
Me and my buddies used to lug around a guitar lol
Anyone got any travel guitar recommendations?

Guitar brand guitar famalam
Makala makes a weatherproof ukulele for pretty cheap. I saw them in person a while back, but they boxes they were in were stapled shut, so I didn't get the chance to play it and see how they sound. In other news, I made this retarded banjo thing out of a toy frying pan and a 2x4.
