hi /out/, after 4 years of use the soles of my hiking boots are completely flat
what are the pros and cons of getting my old ones resoled vs. just buying a new pair?
pic related, they're not particularly expensive boots
Bumping for interest, my boots are on their way out.
If you are going to resole then know that roofing silicon is a great way of attaching soles or doing repairs when the bottom comes of.

new ones smell better

Boots like that, where the outsole is glued to an injection molded foam midsole, can't be resoled. You destroy the foam in the process.
Thanks majority of cheaper boots can't be resoled because of their construction. They need to be board lasted and properly welted, and that can't be done by a Vietnamese kid in a sweat shop. It has to be done by a skilled worker and that makes the boots expensive.
I resole my old boots 3 times in 20 years with contact polyurethanic adesive but they got almost standard Vibram soles, problem is you will need to find new soles, like the old ones, fitting your boots

>they're not particularly expensive boots
then just buy new ones. why are you trying to make this more complicated?

Maybe anon likes the current boots and doesn't want to get new ones

Get Offerup and check for people selling boots in your size. I just found a pair of really lightly used Danner Marines for $10. I'm pretty sure they're worth $300.

>exact same outsole as my standard issue boots
I wouldn't trust those boots, anon.

I do miss how long those Merrells lasted though
I got my fist disposable pair a year and a half ago, they are already pretty worn, and there is no way to resole them
My knees thanked me though

Blablabla. Just get some nice soles and glue the thing. You could stich it but those small roles would leave space for water (althought they could be be covered with shoe glue or something later)

Post pics of your resoled boots.

Dont want to start a new thread, where can i buy boots that are good quality but also affordable? I am on a tight budget but I can pay $100. My last boots from Walmart are wearing out badly. My shoe size is 6 Mens.

Go to military/police shops. I use mcraefootwear personally, it's goretex so blocks out water really well. You can walk on shallow water and not a single drop goes it. Rockyboots claw series is cheaper but just about as good too.
If it's cheap boots you don't resole because 1) most are not made to be resoled 2) it would be more expensive than buying a new pair.

I didnt think of that, thanks.

>2) it would be more expensive than buying a new pair.
This also, if it costs more than 40 US dollars to put a new sole sometimes it's just better to get a new pair.
