Well, I dropped my 4 dollar Coleman enamel mug on a rock and it chipped the enamel off both the outside and through inside. Not sure if it's safe any more because no idea what's in those layers or if they'll flake off in my coffee.

Do all enamel mugs do this or is it just Coleman being family vacation grade trash? Also what replacement mug do I buy?

They do flake off. You are going to habe to toss it. I know it will be hard to do. I was consuming a few chips a day, so I had to trade mine in. Like so many other things, ultralight faggots have made getting a new one much harder than it should be. All they have in stores are some bitch-made magnesium shot glasses or the dumbass SS ones with the folding handles.

Stanley makes a number of lovely mug and muglike products, but also the chunky plastic cups that come with the steel cooker are absolutely delightful, even if they don't look like it. They're just really thick and fit so nicely in your palm, and everyone should have the set to begin with anyway.

All enamel mugs do it. If you are scared, take a chip to the lab and have it tested for.... whatever they test paint chips for? Lead?
Or roll it into a shaving mug or a pencil holder and buy a replacement.

Let's see a pic
>>
>>1007913
Why am I in this thread again?
>>
I have set of 4 enameled mugs, one of them was burned or something before I got it. The damage on the outside is about the size of a dime and the damage on the inside about the size of an eraser head... I use the damaged mug the most and it has never gotten any worse. So I am assuming the heat sealed the edges preventing anymore enamel from coming off than was originally damaged.
>>
>>1007798
If you want another enamelware mug I suggest the GSI Pioneer set. Much better quality than Coleman's. Still not outrageously expensive. Only downside is I'm not sure if you can buy the pieces individually or of you can only buy in a set.

I think they're kidney shaped so the canteen can nest inside them. Why would drinking from it be awkward? Both sides look almost as round as a cup, it's like an elongated cup.
>>
>>1008151
Because it nests with a canteen designed to fit snugly on your hip.

Holy schidt. I remember in like 5th grade we read some book in english class about pioneers or something and we had to do a book report and bring in something to show-and-tell related to the time period. My friend's dad's an alcoholic mechanic/handyman and he welded one of those together, so that's what my friend brought in to show us. It was neat but redneck af †bh senpaitachi.

If you jsut want for drinking, eating and cooking - a Titanium cup

If you want it just for drinking, a double walled stainless cup.

Don't bother with an enamel'ed POS
>>
>>1008882
you have to elaborate on using cans that are unlined, as lined cans arent graded to be used to cook food in and repeated consumption

Enamel is pretty safe. It just glass fused to a metal substrate. The biggest risk is if you swallow a big sharp chunk, could irritate your insides. Otherwise little bits okay.
>>
>>1009372
You put the water in after you heat it? IDK.

Not a flavor lock can either... can tell by not having the air vent at the tab... but most likely would be flavor lock can if it was from a 2 year long Garth Brooks tour.

You're both retarded. How hot do you expect the fluid poured into the cup to be? Also, "razor sharp jagged aluminum".... are you so god damn dumb that you can't imagine a method to dull the edges of the aluminum... like rubbing it in the fucking dirt? Jesus christ /out/ ... I thought you were actually /out/ and not just armchair warriors. I'm going back to /out/ and using my can mug forever.

>be out working on a trail crew in texas under 90 degree fucking heat

Same. Too bad they dent so easily. $15.00 silicone sleeve I got off Amazon is totally worth it.
>>
>>1007843
I got these
Lost the cups and the top but the main body still works even after the impact of a .22
>>
>>1008160
The idea behind the kidney design (also the canteen)is expose a mayor surface to the heat at the side of a fire.
>>
>>1009703
>Lost the cups and the top
goodness anon that's a bit slack. but yeah it's a good little cooker!
>>
>>1009707
No, it's for the ergonomics. Do you think a kidney shaped bottle is going to be better than a round pot over a stove? I don't think so. And most militaries use solid/liquid fuel stoves (think ESBIT or trangia) and NOT beside a fire, so why would that even be a consideration
>>
>>1009479
I have one for around town and gym but it sucks for out. Can't boil water, bulky for how much it holds. Also, uhhhh insulation doesn't mean much when you're refilling at streams and not your fridge.

It's the paralyzing number of choices now that we all shop on amazon instead of in a store where you have 3 choices where 1 is crap and 1 is overpriced.

Myth 4: Drinking out of aluminum cans or cooking in aluminum pots and pans can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

Reality: During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat.
