Hey /out/! Longtime hiker/biker from the Appalachians here. I've recently been offered a position with the conservation corps for a six month stint and I was wondering if any of you have any experience with it?
It's in Utah, near Mt. Zion/Bryce Canyon/Canyonlands. It seems a great way to see a part of the country I wouldn't have seen otherwise. What do you guys think? Any of you old CC volunteers?

Hope you can afford to make basically no money

I can, yeah. I'm out of undergrad and I'm taking a year off before grad school.

Well then have fun.
You'll carry stuff, use hand tools, maybe use tools that need gas. Drink water.

I've done things similar to ACE. Congrats on getting into it. You're right that it'll be a great way to get /out/ for a long time. Since you'll be in the field the whole time, make sure your shoulders and back aren't totally out of shape before you take off-- you don't want to be surviving off of ibuprofen for that long and, no, the work you do there will not condition you if you aren't already conditioned, you'll only get fucked up. Hopefully, you'll be set up with some cool people. Have a good time. I'm feelin mad envy for you.

Well that's really great to hear anon, I hope I enjoy it. Luckily I keep myself in pretty good shape, so I don't think I'll have to deal with the workout hangover. Cheers
