What does /out/ think of bicycle touring?
I want to cycle around the world, or make a trip from Denmark to South Africa by bike!
What are your thoughts?!
As a cyclist I also wanna do it. Not around the world probably, a week or two would be cool enough.
I think my biggest obstacle is just myself and my desire for better gear/better bicycle/career.
Attaching one of the pics i've taken last summer.
Sounds fucking crazy, but it'd be worth the time to save and cost of the trip I'm sure.
It's a great escape from civilisation but it's not exactly cheap or easy going. You can't take a tent for example. I use a bivvy bag and a basha (poncho, tarp, etc) which works just as well and weighs a fraction of a tent.
I highly recommend it to anybody, but it's important to pick up some of the language in the area you'll be visiting.
There isn't enough money in the world to pay me to make a bicycle trip across 100 miles anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa unless I have hired black SUVS in front and trailing me.

Do it faggot.
If I ever did it I would make a thread about it (or post what I'm doing every so often). And I would write a book!

?
You can take pretty much anything you want while bicycle touring. Tents, blankets, pillows, extra clothing, big cameras, tripods, camping chairs, computers, etc. More weight will slow you down, especially uphill, but not nearly as much as it would on foot.

I carried my pump externally when I started touring too. Before too long I learned that taking a pump from cold, wet, low-pressure mountains to hot, dry, low deserts in blazing sun is not good for the seal. I ended up having to hitch a ride to a city and never made the same mistake again.
Cool water bottle setup.
