Fucking old lady hit me and totalled my 02 mustang gt manual. Hit and run.

I'm now looking at a couple 2000-2006 e46 bmw 330ci coupe manuals.
Anybody ever own one? Wondering how they are reliability wise and all that.
>>
It's worse and more expensive than your mustang if that's what you're asking.

I can't bring myself to just buy another mustang. I got mine for a really good price. Anything even close to as nice as mine was is gonna be more than a grand more than I paid for mine. I figure if I'm paying the extra money I might as well get something more luxury

>>17890302
Cop found the old bitch a couple hours later. She thought she "bumped a curb" and had no insurance.
>>
>>17890297
Hell no. I own a '04 GT and an E46 feels like it's ten years newer. Much higher quality, much better ride and handling. Less engine but whatever. New Edge Mustangs were the tail end of late 1970s American car quality.

If I could get a cherry E46 right now I'd like someone total my Mustang for the insurance.

On the downside, they are harder to work on and parts cost more than a brostang.

>It's worse
Said nobody with a functioning brain, ever

>It's worse

The New Edge came out in 1999 as an exterior facelift to the SN95. The SN95 was from 1994 and was an improved Fox Body chassis. The Fox Body came out in 1978.

You're effectively driving a car with a chassis from 1978 and an interior from 1994. It feels older and worse than a typical Japanese car from the mid-late '90s. I'm not memeing--I own one.

Cooling system likes to fail around 100k. It's all plastic so things just start to crack. The rear differential bushing goes out and starts banging the diff against the subframe, cracks the floor and pulls the subframe right out. The front lower control arm bushings seem to go bad every 30k miles. Door lock solenoids fail. Random lights fail at random times. Sunroof shade retaining clips break and it gets stuck in the retracted position. The sport seats are too high for anyone 6' or taller. The steering wheel tilts slightly to the left. VANOS. DISA.
>>
>>17890638
Is that just with the 330ci? does the M3 version have the same faults?
>>
>old lady
>hit and run

God damn lol
>>
>>17890287
You must be a loser cuck if an old lady had the balls to hit and run.
>>
>>17890287
The ride is magnificent. The responsiveness and chassis will make you pop a chub every time. Trust me, take it for a test drive. The mustang feels like a freight train compared to the BMW
>>
>>17891097
She was in her late 80s and practically blind. Car was dead so couldn't chase her. She's lucky she's old af and ran honestly. I would've killed a younger dude if he had stuck around.
>>
>>17891102
This definitely is a reason I want it. I really want something that's a step up from my mustang. Though the mustang is quicker than the 330, the quality is the huge difference

How hard is it to make some extra power in these things?

It's an M54, the sky is the limit lol
You can do intake/headers/exhaust/tune and maybe gain 20-30hp
These engines can hold some power though, look into forced induction unless you're a total poorfag
Supercharged I6 is a dream m8
>>
>>17891208
How about the differential though. I know pretty much all bmws come with an open dif. How hard is it to find an lsd for one of these?

>>17891219
more expensive than its worth, get a e36 m3 or a e46 m3.

then yank your hair out when you're replacing stupid 20 year old german rubber/plastic/glues (door cards, seals, balljoints, bushings, etc) and parts they didn't add enough metal to so they could save 0.02 cents per car (but tear out shock towers/subframes 10 years later)

if you don't work on your cars and its your only car you're not ready for used german car ownership. i'd look at a mkv gti or turbo subaru

I'm not sure about the e46 lsds, I know people were swapping out m3 subframes/diffs into their 330s but unsure if there's a more cost effective option
Hell on E36s you can get a 3.15, 3.38, or 3.91 lsd for 150-300

>>17891230
My M3 started off NA and now it's stupidcharged lol
My 328is started off NA too and it's about to go back together and make 550whp with just a cutring gasket, arp studs and an otherwise stock engine

Honestly if you aren't ready to replace rubber and plastic bits you shouldn't own a 10+ year old car that isn't totally ecoshitbox af
Also the shock tower shit is a meme unless you live in the rust belt
>>
>>17891230
I mean I've got a good boater mechanic who works on these in his sleep and wouldn't charge me shit so I'm not too worried in that department. And after driving a mustang I sure as Hell don't want a Japanese car lol
>>
>>17890589
they're shit in every way
>>
>>17891249
I loved my mustang honestly. That car was a blast to drive. Never once lost control. Could kick the rear out at any moment I wanted to. It suprised me sometimes with the cornering. Thought it was gonna be a boat in the corners but it really was fun.
Can't really say anything bad about the car. The engine was bulletproof and nothing ever went wrong with it. Redlined it whenever I wanted to. Fun as hell and an amazing sounding v8. Imo the 4.6 sounds better than the new 5.0s
>>
>>17891208
Just buy a m3, its easier and cheaper than trying to mod a lower model. Plus modding anything scares away potential buyers when you try to sell.
>>
>>17891266
Hell this is why I fuck with e36s lol, god damn legos I tell you what
>>
>>17891238
You should know already BMW used the shittiest possible rubber/plastic and used it everywhere in the car. Its not that its a 10+ year old car its more its a 20+ year old car with shittier rubber/plastics/glues than other 20 year old cars with that shitty rubber/plastic/glue in more places you wouldn't expect (like the thermostat housings, clutch pivot pins, shifter bushings, seat gears, etc).

It doesn't even have a turbo to heat everything up around the engine bay.

>Shock Tower Meme

I had it happen on mine, lol. It was happening on these cars when they were 5-8 years old (just look at old threads from 2002-2003 on bimmerforums).

E46 is just subframe instead of shock towers (where again, it was happening on what were still fairly new cars sometimes even under warranty covered by BMW NA with whole trunk floors replaced).

Why I'm floored when people downplay it, just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it can't happen. And its ONLY BMWs.

>>17891241
Well, good luck. I'd honestly buy a G35/350Z if its not a M3. WRXs and MKV GTis are great too. At least being a M3 its the benchmark every sports car is compared to.

I own a 2004 M3, it has been pretty reliable actually for a 13ish year old car. I bought it in 2012 and so far I only had to replace the following.
>Alternator
>Rear Bushings for the front Arm
>Rear springs
>Brake calipers, rotors and hoses

That is it. However I have been experiencing these issues.
>Rubber around the windows is disintegrating
>Brakes seems to stick even after replacing the calipers and brakehoses.
>Tire inflation light is on
>Traction control seems to engage when it doesn't need to.

That is pretty much it, I like my car, and it is for sale because I need a bigger car, I have a family now.
