Are you so sure it's a hub cap for a car? The boats are obvious but maybe is not a crest. Could be a naval flag that they converted.

That doesnt matter, Hudson had multiple versions of this logo throughtout their lifetime like any other company, this is just a much earlier version as opposed to the one in OP's pic which was put on the car towards the end of the company
