What are they doing differently? How can they make cars so light? Are they cheating somehow?

If Suzuki is cheating what is Mazda doing then?

Kei car history, and a very no-bullshit approach to building cars in general. You really don't get much more than you need in the interior, which leaves more budget for a great engine and chassis.
>>

It actually comes with far more tech than necessary

really cheap and thin steal

Pretty sure the new one in your pic is actually under 1 ton

No it's just Suzuki has always been masterly at making fun compact cars with a well balanced lightweight chassis and clever packaging.

Thank God fucking cheats VW failed to tame Suzuki and steal their core technologies.
In the end VW ended up making pathetic shit like the Up!
>>
>>17871473

the new base model is actually under 900kg

the base model (5 speed manual + 1.2L NA) is 840kg.

Even the mild hybrid RS version is 910 kg. They are incredibly light.

There are rumors of a North American return for Suzuki, starting with the Vitara. Sadly it's turned from a tiny capable offroader into a baby Range Rover Evoque, but at least they're still making the Jimny and they even have a retro as fuck facelift planned for that.

>>

Apparently Renault Nissan will bring lada to north america but its going to be Mitsubishi with even more shitty crossover.
>>
>>17871173
>What are they doing differently? How can they make cars so light? Are they cheating somehow?
virtually no insulation, tons of other thin materials. Engine is probably small, frame is thin and small too, and the suspension isn't that complex so thats also light.
>>
>>17873074
This. My NA market 2600lb suzuki wagon is basically a tin can on wheels. It's the body, a thin sheet of plastic then the plastic interior panels. No insulation whatsoever. The engine is decently powerful though and puts out more power than a Honda.
>>
They did a great job on the design in my opinion too
>>
I'm a burger with an affinity for domestic cars but I've always absolutely adored Suzukis. They need to return to burgerland. The swift gti and samurai won't tide me over forever (maybe)
>>
>>17872103
>>17872241
so basically back seats. but never underestimate the importance of back seats.
>>
>>17872103
>how is it easier to drive, the mr2 is incredibly easy to drive
>> snap oversteer
>with good tires this only happens if you do something seriously wrong
this.
MRS defies physics in any way you want as long as you keep that throttle down and didn't go cheap on rubber.

But honestly not that guy to say that since I think 1zz in mrs is enough but that suzuki needs at least 180hp.
140hp in MRS is fun because it is light, low and wide with power to the rear from rear.
That suzuki while light makes only 140hp and it's xbox huge.
>>
>>17871173
Does the sport have good seats? Thats the main selling point for me.

Anon, there are crash standards to which even Suzuki has to comply.
It would by company suicide if the pillars were weak and the last gen also got decent crash ratings so there are no worries.
>>
>>17875162
fiat 500L has the same angle A pillars that fiat has gotten 5 stars with but fast forward to small overlap crash you can see how easy they bend.

I wonder when they will introduce the penis penetration testing
>>

I was actually surprised by how well this did in the small overlap test. NCAP doesnt do small overlap, but gave it 3/5 stars

>>
>>17875191
It is a light car, therefore everything does not have to be as hard as on a car twice the weight.

Hence those small overlap tests are absolute garbage because imagine this getting hit by a SUV coming at it at 60mph
