Affordable cars are coming with magnetic suspension now (an Ecoboost w/Perf Pack and Magride is under 35k). Is this more of a performance thing, or does it significantly improve comfort on rough roads too?
Both.
The ability to change damping more or less on the fly with an infinite adjustment has both ride quality and high performance benefits.

>magride
Great, now I can see those fuckwits at Ford fitting this in their trucks and hatches.

and yet even such refined suspension couldnt have saved you from wrapping yourself around a tree

Well i mean obviously not. Suspension can't change the mindset of a headstrong teenager who make stupid decisions.

An extra second of lap time doesn't really matter to me as much as comfort. Driving my stiffly-sprung Fiesta ST around shitty roads and hearing things rattle isn't enjoyable, and I want a more refined ride.

That's what you get for buying a fwd shitbox with twisted beam suspension instead of multi-point.

magride would be great for any vehicle

Magride doesn't help for comfort with if you have run flat tires.
Interestingly for the new ZL1 1LE chevy went with multispool dampers. they invented all this mag shock stuff so I think that shows there are limitations to the tech.
Ive had them in a cadillac and my SS sedan. they work better in the SS with a more noticable range. i think they work best with the chassis on their firmest setting. even though you pick up more road vibrations if you hit an actual bump the car settles much quicker than in the tour setting.

Assholes at GM only put it on the USA delivered cars. It's STILL fancy new technology??
Like wtf how advanced is this shit really
Could be that it's not as reliable as normal parts.
That's always big factor for Australians... Fuck if I know.. Magnets...
It works ok for softening or tightening the ride. Its not dramatic but it can soften a sports car or tighten a boat enough to make it worth it.
