Yeah, I was originally looking at toyotas, but where I'm at they hold their value very well. Ended up paying 2,400 for the ranger. It wouldnt go into 4x4 when I got it, but some tapping the electric motor on the transfer with a hammer case has it working great again.

Got my heart set on this as the first vehicle in my own name. Needed something versatile that i can take in the woods and would be cheap to maintain. '96 ranger, 4L, v6, 4x4, auto(only downside), 150k miles; 1 owner who obviously loved it. They're asking 5250 which is out of my price range after sales tax and fees. How much do you think i could reasonably talk them down to if i paid in full in cash? Haven't test drove it yet

get a 1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma with the 3.4L V6, indestructible and easy/inexpensive to maintain, it's an infinitely better vehicle in almost every imaginable way

Where do you live that "4WD is actually necessary" and you can't find a 4x4 Xtra Cab 1st gen Tacoma, that's easily the most common trim beyond the 2wd shits

newsflash, the Ranger isn't gonna be much good offroad if that's what you need 4WD for.

And idk man they're just shitty, it's not like they're horribly "unreliable" but they always have little shit that goes wrong, or at least that's the impression I get from having a lot in my shop and knowing people who own(ed) them

The manual trans is apparently horrible and the 4WD solenoids or something go out all the time

But like you would know what I meant by shitty if you got into a well taken care of Tacoma and Ranger back to back and drove them, the Ranger just feels cheap and SHITTY

which is something you should do btw

hell for 5k you could get any number of superior trucks, my pick is the 3.4 Taco but even a Nissan Frontier or Chebby Colorado would be better than the stranger

>>17869779
sounds like a you problem bud, literally any truck ever made (of steel) would rust away parked by the beach for 10 years without proper care

Duratorq TDCi 2.2L VG Turbo engine

19.47KM per L (odd reading it like that but its the philipines)

3.79 times 19.47 = 73KM per gallon
73KM = 45 Miles

still not bad for a pick up truck.

I have one bar & two 9" lamps facing forwards on my truck now, and two small LED-lamps on the rear that serves as extra reverse-lights

Not planning on any more forwards-facing light now after I get my new 9" 65W HID lamps on Friday. I might put two small LED-spots on the rack I plan on making to attach the 50" bar on, as the single-roof rack its attached to now makes it jiggle a tad too much. Those two will basically just be search-lights, letting me see into the forest much more clearly when doing searches

Yes, upper control arms. When you lift you change the geometry of the whole steering system as I'm sure you know. With a 2 inch lift you may not be able to get it aligned well after the lift because of how restrictive the stock UCAs are.

Aftermarket ones also allow for more travel and aren't as easily rubbed by the tire

I was not aware that this would be an issue on a pickup like mine, where the front suspension is torsion bars. The front is lifted by tightening the torsion, with nothing except for the shocks being replaced with better ones

I could be wrong and I'm not saying you'll definitely have problems. But it's usually one of the first post-lift upgrades that taco and tundra drivers do.

Neither the Tacoma or the Tundra ever came with torsions as far as I know, and thats a huge difference. If I had coils on the front then sure - I'd consider getting more suited uppers if needed, but with the torsions you don't change out any parts except the shocks, which actually don't do anything for alignment on these. The torsion is designed to be adjusted as you require, and as such the only times you'll have alignment issues are when the bars themselves are worn out, or you have either loosened or tightened them way too much

The Taco & Tundra are also lower-sitting trucks with softer suspensions, with more stock suspension travel aswell when compared to the Hilux

We checked the alignment before and after installing the kit, and if there was any difference it was not measurable in millimetres

If you DD a truck for any other reason than work related activities, you should kill yourself.
If you rice your truck under any conditions (blacked out headlights/brake lights, wheel studs, etc), you should kill yourself.
If you drive a lifted truck that isn't lifted solely for for work related functions, you should kill yourself.

>half the nimrods driving said trucks are only doing it because rural retard music told them to

Yeah but it's not the same. The 2 door handle clamshell design looks so much cleaner. Yeah using the back is not ideal but if that's an issue buy a crew cab. Oh well I guess that's what the people want.

>>17874186
What if I want to take my toys to a sick camp site? You aren't getting a Subaru up those roads. It's pushing it in a stock truck.

Yeah truck drivers are usually asshole drivers though "shredding the twisties" is awful popular here which is equally assholeish.

>Because you can't see past my pickup? Funny how you think swapping one vehicle for another makes a difference in gridlock. Stay upset.
It really does add up. It's not just brodozers that are guilty either. Retarded drivers and other slow vehicles with very little handling ability are to blame too. Less retard drivers, and less slow, badly handling vehicles on the road, the better.

Peak torque of my engine is about 300lb/ft. Which is a lot for a car that only weighs ~2500lbs.

>sure thing i daily an enzo aswell!! xd
>thinks anything I listed was prohibitively expensive
All of the engine related modifications I listed cost less than $2.5k total which included new fuel pump, injectors, con rods, pistons, turbo, intercooler, BOV, ECU, etc. Took about a year to assemble everything and get it tuned. The only thing I didn't do myself was the tuning.
The car itself was $1k. It's not pretty, needs to be repainted and has a few dents but it cucks Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, etc. and causes lots of butthurt on the interstate.
>>

Any gmt400

Any of these trucks can be found in decent mechanical shape at that price. Rust is to be expected, watch for rust in certain spots. Gmt 400 s will probably rust in the fenders and quarter panel, f150 beds like to rust, Dakota's are expected to have lots of rust. S10s don't rust too bad.

Generally how does four wheel drive effect the long term reliability and cost of maintenance of a old truck?
>>
>>17884022
Ad up the parts:
Transfer case n' shift stuff
Front diff n' shift stuff
Extra drive shaft n' joints

Now add possible for added complexity if the truck is independent front suspension because of CV joints.

Now add cost for complexity if the truck has any electronics. Solonieds, encoders, servo motors, switches, control boxes, sensors.

Always work under jack stands. Pic related.

If you have any mechanical knowledge at all, opening it up is no problem ,especially if it is just a valve spring or something top-end wise. Pulling a valve cover off is easy as hell, there is so much room to work, it's great. I can literally sit in the engine bay of mine and work on it

It wasn't 6 tonne. 6 tonne is an unladen tri axle semi tipper trailer. A loaded up tandem axle (presuming it's a 8x5 loaded with split Jarrah a metre high would be about 1.5 tonne of firewood max. You're dreaming with your prediction.

Unless you need a truck for some reason like work or to tow things, there is no reason to own a truck. I hate seeing city girls driving around a truck covered in pink stickers and shit. I mean if that is what you really want then go for it, but unless you have a toolbox and/or a trailer hitch on it, you are gonna look like a retard. Course I live in Texas and see useless trucks all the damn time so that is probably why I get annoyed by it. Same thing with Jeep wranglers that have NEVER been used off road. A lot of people around here get them just so they can drive them around with no doors on and the ones without doors ALWAYS have a kid in the back and a dumb bitch wearing flip flops resting their foot on the fender. Good luck if a rock flies into your kids head while you on on the freeway or someone T-bones you!

Usually a tandem box trailer is about an 8x5 where as a typical single axle is 6x4. The benefit of the tandem is simply load capacity.
Even then a typical braked caged tandem trailer tares off at 350-450kg depending largely on steel thickness used to construct it, not "about 1 tonne". That ute anon is just full of shit.
