I am currently driving a 2005 Chebby Malibu I "bought" from my grandparents for 100$ a little over a year ago. However, part of the deal is that I need to share it with my younger brother when he gets his license, which is likely to be in a few months. I really don't feel like taking the bus to uni every other day so its time that I start looking for a new car. My budget is around 5k. I'm thinking about getting a Celica as there are a few in my province for a decent price and I've heard they are decently fun to drive.
So what does /o/ recommend for a cheap, decently fun coup/sedan?

Due to living in a frozen hellhole (Edmonton) there are very few miatas around, and RWD doesn't seem like a good idea for a relatively new driver on roads that are pure ice for 8 months of the year. An e39 would be nice but based on what I've seen it isn't really realistic at my price point. Do you have any other suggestions or should I just say fuck it and buy a Celica? They seem like a decent compromise.

They're decent cars if you're deadset on a coupe, but if it's your only vehicle 4 door is pretty great for moving stuff/people
By the sound of it, do they salt the road around you? Would make a big difference if half the cars are utter rustbuckets.
Buy a matrix or corolla XRS if you want to have a bit of fun. Or get an Acura RSX but I think the Toyota's are cheaper on insurance. If you want a Celica, try and get the GTS for the fun motor. Matrix is more practical though

We never used to, but I believe that the city is in the process of phasing out regular sanding and plowing with Calcium Chloride. So most cars shouldn't have too much rust
