I have one. It's a shit motor other than longevity
trying to get into cars, or atleast be more knowledgeable about them. when it comes to engines, what are the limiting factors behind the power they generate? number of pistons? Total combustion chamber size? max rpm while guessing what effect GVW has on the rpm delta/s? compression ratios? fuel type? engine, cam & combustion chamber stylings obviously important too. do engine mods like FAI really make that much more power?
I guess everyone all the time is trying to develop the best engine -- but how do you know which engines are better than others just based off the numbers? or do you just come to memorize or expect that an engine from a 1.5 ton 2L 4 cylinder WRX is just better (faster) than one from a 2 ton 4.6L 6 cylinder f150? like if you were to swap the two the f150 would smoke the wrx.

The thread is for Favorite engines, not necessarily the best. I've just spent the most time with the 6g series and the pretty wide use of applications for them. Supercharged, turbocharged, twincharged, mated to awd, smooth vvt, strong internals, bore out to 4.0. You can actually put optima heads on the 6g72 and 74 for DOHC but i haven't seen much on what gains that yields.

Interesting read.
By the mid-1950s, the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) had 220 normally scavenged and 22 supercharged Nordberg radial engines installed in its Port Lavaca, Texas aluminum plant. Combined, these engines could produce 475,000 hp (354,207 kW). The engines were arranged in seven powerhouses, consisting of around 40 engines each. Kaiser Aluminum used 80 Nordberg radial engines in its reduction plant in Chalmette, Louisiana, accounting for 150,000 hp (111,885 kW).
Ford C9DA or Endura-DI
It's little with only 1.8 liters and 90 hp but damn if this thing is reliable. It needs only two things: oil and diesel, then it will go on and on.
