Find a community college or specialist 'school' that can get you a CDL, either finance it or pay out of pocket, then get on board at a company that offers tuition reimbursement.

Stick out your two years in the meat grinder to pay your dues, then decide once you're debt free whether or not you want to stick around.

There are also companies that will train you in exchange for you signing a (typically) 2-year contract, and while these are generally regarded as a total shitfest, it's not the worst thing in the world if that is your only option.

That said, aim for a recognizable company - Swift, Prime, and Schneider all get a lot of flak for being 'puppy mill' companies, but the true shitters are companies like CR England, CRST, and a handful of others that aren't coming to mind.

Nine times out of ten, a smaller, locally-owned-and-operated 'Mom and Pop' company will be your best bet.

You should be able to do terminal ends and battery yourself even if it's in the trunk. (No idea where it is on a jetta).

For battery replacement, without vatozone you need to know two things:
1.) Cold cranking amps (CCA) and regular cranking amps on your current battery
2.) Battery dimensions (length,width,height)
3.) Bonus round: whether it is side post or top, I'm betting it's side.

This will tell you what battery you can get from anywhere, including Wal-Mart and not pay shitty markup on a "special" battery. If the car is over a decade old, spend the cash and buy both battery ends and the anti corrosion stuff to put on them.

Oil leak and timing belt should definitely be done by a pro if you're not mechanically inclined. Watch out if that's an interference engine though, a timing belt letting go means GG engine.

Advance auto parts always has a 20-25% coupon running if you're feeling incredibly lazy and wanna pick it up about as cheap as you can.

5 speed tiptronic?

It has no dipstick, nor accessible filter but is very easy to drain and refill. It almost makes it really nice in that regard as to regular maintenance is a bolt and some fun plastic clips (i'd replace the top plug after 202k, heat has fucked that thing).

They don't seem to die unless horrendously abused, the solenoids are the first thing to go to them, and most think their trans is dying when it's nothing more than a solenoid. They're a bitch to do but not exactly hard, and about $200 a set.

Drain and replace the trans fluid and drive it until it dies. If you're really nice to your car and don't mind dropping a bit on the price-ier OE/OE spec trans fluid do it again after a few thousand miles.

If it was never done like mine until ~150k it will smell like a tire fire.
