Took my ktm for a fucking RIP today, got lapped by yamahas every race. As I launched off of a jump, getting a massive 5 feet of air, I could feel the rush of energy through my body knowing that my riding level is unmatched. As I landed perfectly, I could feel my triple clamps snap as well as my motor tearing itself apart from inside, I realized that no other company uses the highest quality parts like ktm does, and laughed at the yamaha riders face as he lapped me for the 3rd time. So much soul and passion flowed between my ktm and me that it irrupted into flames and burned to the ground

I had an opportunity today to test ride the new 2018 Yamaha FZ-09 and R6 and I must say that these two bikes are some of the biggest pieces of shit I have ever had the displeasure of sitting on.

R6: this is a complete race bike through and through. I am not new to 600s but I have never seen or felt anything like this before. The throttle throw is retarded and the bike literally idles at 2k-2.5k RPM. It's hard to even just pussy foot around the parking lot without having to rev it up to 10k to actually feel anything. God damn. This might be good for the track but fuck is this useless in the real world.

FZ-09: This is a fast fucking bike but there is something wrong with the throttle. I don't know what exactly but it's a combination of too much play and a weird snatchyness to it that makes it unpredictable/not very linear. Comfortable as hell though.

Fuck both of these bikes. Suzuki is the best

>FZ-09: This is a fast fucking bike but there is something wrong with the throttle.

They are DBW but Yamaha still has a throttle cable and the pot sensor is down by the motor. Shitty throttle on the bike you rode was a setup issue, the tech at the dealer that put it together didn't bother taking the play out.
>>
>>17841516
it is a widely known fact that the FZ-09 has shitty fuelling, can't imagine that is due to dealers not putting them together properly.
>>
>>17841520

First gens had shitty fueling and that was only 2014 and early 2015 models. They offered to flash ECUs and 2016 were fine. Delete this dumb meme.

Plenty of riders and journalists reported that while better, the fuelling was still subpar on newer models.
Yamaha can't meet emissions targets without running the engine overly lean, just like on the R1.

Recently got my full licence after 6 months on small a 125 learner (cg125 clone)

Looking at a mid sized bike now, the CB400 and the similar bikes seem like a good mixture of power and size. I live in a cramped city which my 125 has been great for, so don't want a "full" sized bike. but at the same time fuck 11hp,

The 400cc 4cyl bikes make around 50hp, and seem pretty cool with their high revs.

How much is reasonable to spend on a 2nd bike? i'm looking for one that's mechanically sound but already scratched so i'm not scared of dropping it. I have a week off work coming off and want to go on a road trip with the new bike
>>
>>17841753
not counting prototypes or barely usable "weirdos"?

Yes the current limit for a mass produced, affordable bike is about 200 hp.

California is sooper-smog-freedom-state compared to Europe. CA hasn't upped their standards since 2008. "Euro 4" was new for 2016, and it's crazy:

Euro 4:
CO: 1.14 g/km
HC: 0.17 g/km
NOx: 0.09 g/km
(HC + NOx): 0.26 g/km

California:
CO: Blond hair, Don't care
(HC + NOx): 0.8 g/km applied as a corporate average

yah, CA allows 3x the smog. And only counts the "corporte average", so flagship bikes can stink more as long as you sell plenty of 300's

Cali CAR standards are tough, but they give Motorcycles a pass, with the given reason that smogging bikes is hard, and people don't ride their bikes as much as they drive their cars, so the overall contribution to smog is still small. bikes are something like 1% of the miles driven in CA but 10% of the smog.

If you're a small builder who produces less than 300 bikes a year, you don't need to meet any standards at all. The state knows that if they take too much fun away, people will fight it.

I knew some of you will react like that
I mean downshifting when the rpm is suitable for low and high gear(for example 5th and 4th gear)
The revs is still matching
>>
>>17842627
You mean riding the clutch while downshifting?
>>
>>17842640
I'm not sure what riding the clutch mean
But I'm gonna say Yes(?)
of course I'm not doing it on high rpm, I do it on rpm that is suitable both gears, so I also get engine braking)
>>
>>17842540
It will cause the bike to lurch forward a lot. Best practice is to rev match. It's a lot easier on your drive train and will help you slow down.

>>17842627
>I do "rev match" just without throttle
>>
>>17842627
5th to 4th you don't need to rev match because that's your direct drive gear. Both engine and transmission spin at the same speed in that range. The whole point of rev matching is to get the engine to spin at the appropriate speed when it re-engages with the transmission for a smooth downshift. This won't cause the bike to lurch forward, it's much more controlled, and helps to stop more quickly.
>>
>>17842661
Unless you ride the clutch, which will slowly raise the revs until it's correct on both sides.

I do the same
>>
>>17842661
>It will cause the bike to lurch forward
like in any braking
> and will help you slow down. >>17842674
>and helps to stop more quickly.
I feel this is actually stop slower because the small amount of the throttle make the engine brakes weaker.

>>17842688
Yes this is how I stop, And I feel this method stops the quickest.
and the lurch is not that bad, feels normal.

So I get I should have asked
>How do you stop, rev matching or riding the clutch?

Thank you all, I also learned English Today.

The only time I rev match is when I want to keep the torque.

As long as it was well taken care of, mileage shouldn't be that big of an issue, especially if its your first bike and you intend to upgrade later.

If you find a bike that has 60k on it but its owners have been kind to it, don't worry about it.

I've always ridden real motorcycles, but I'm traveling to Asia soon and I might rent a scooter/moped.

How different is the experience? One thing that I learned from rider training school was that small-displacement scooters don't usually countersteer, and I could see myself struggling to get used to that. I will definitely consider renting a real bike, but the only reason I'm considering a scooter in the first place is because of the cost.

yup. I did it to get my license and it was getting hot near the end when we were doing the test. Did entire test fine, open my visor a bit because my eyeballs are fuckin sweaty, and a bug flies into my eyes and I lose my shit on the low speed sharp turn. put my foot down and wobbled and revved because I grabbed the brake weird, but I still passed. the instructors even said multiple times they pass tons of people that they feel guilty about.

Anybody else do rolling side dismounts when parking their bike? It feels so efficient. I want to try side mounting the bike now but 1st gear is so jerky and I'll probably make a fool of myself.

Sounds like a good way to dump your bike.
>>
>>17844603
Well it looks a lot better than almost losing my balance and tipping over getting off my DS because I'm short. My seat has a lot of scrape marks from my boot and I knock my tailbag to the side every time.

I have a routine. I walk it out to the end of my driveway, turn it on, do my safety check, and then hop on and leave.

I also kill the engine when the front tire rolls onto my driveway and coast it into my carport. I don't want to rumble my next door neighbor's house.

A considerate Harley owner. I know, it's weird.

>>17844611
Get good and dismount like a respectable human beimg

I have a sloped driveway with 4 other cars so I back it out under its own weight and park it on the sidewalk, gear up, then start the engine and ride off

ever since this fag heard me running the engine to tune my jap shitbike carbs he's been revving his harley whenever I'm around or in the garage working. as far as I can tell he isn't doing shit to it because it's pretty new looking

i get it dude you have a bike too stop annoying the neighbors before I get blamed for it somehow
