Share your nightmare story of the time you or a friend got zim zammed!

Or share the time you zim zammed somone else (insert evil laughter here). You sneaky little twat.

I got to learn how to rebuild my first transmission, and while I was at it, and had a little extra money, I bought a cam for the thing. Had a great sounding "lope-y" idle, but sounded like a broken blender going mach 10 when you pressed the gas. Ended up selling it for 2k (which is what I bought it for). Kinda miss it. It was a dependable turd.
Sounded exactly like this:

I was never jewed, but my older brother was, really fucking badly.

>he's looking for 1st car, nobody in the family is a car guy, saved up 3.8k
>the only thing we know about cars is word of mouth generalisations "toyotas have the best fuel economy and are the cheapest to maintain"-tier knowledge
>He's looking around for months
>eventually looks in private sales
>Finds a red rover, looks in good condition, I forgot what year, none of us know how to inspect a car properly
>My dad knows the most, changing oils and bad engine smells/sounds, but nothing more comprehensive than that
>Goes with my bro and mum, they do a test drive, everything seems to be in order, my brother is dead keen
>He buys it on the spot when they get back.
>Brother and dad begin to drive back home, hop on the highway
>Mum follows behind
>I'm told the car made an almighty fucking crunch and broke down
>They call up the previous owner and say they are coming back for the money and he can have his shit-pile back
>manage to start the car and it limps at 15kmh back to the other guys place
>don't know what happened next, but my parents cucked out, and agreed to only get 1.5k back and giving the faggot the car back

When it was time for buying my first car, I spent 10 months lurking /o/ and learning as much as I could before I started searching officially.
>>
Needed a winter beater. Found outback wagon in price range. Test drive goes okay, pay for car and pick it up a day or so later. 4 days later I'm driving to my parents place for Christmas eve and as i get there, steam pouring out of the engine bay. Blown HG... almost the purchase price again to fix it. As is, no warranty.
>>
>>17841340
damnit people are absolute shit. there has to be some repercussion for pulling shit like that. people who know their car is fucked one way or another and try to sell it to some unsuspecting hard working victim like its good to go.
>>
>>17841347
are there ways to hide a blown head gasket for a little bit while you try to sell the car? or was it just bad luck?
>>
>>17841363
I've heard of people putting a shitload of that foam crap in to build up compression, then when you keep running the car it washes out and re-blows the motor.
>>
>>17840980
>not getting the car you want to buy get checked: a cautionary tale
>>
>>17840951
My dealership probably tried to fuck me over.
>2008 Scirocco, low mileage, decent paint etc
>drive car around town, don't look too much into it as the dealership has an extensive workshop
>everything fine, bought, registered etc
>first drive to gf over 40km autobahn, suddenly power loss without any notice like the check engine light
>get obd reader out: overboost condition
Apparently the wastegate of a lot of smaller vag engines kicks the bucket somewhere between 0 and 150k km.
>get it back to dealership, they want to charge 800€ for the repair
>get father involved, they back down as they don't want to lose him as a customer
>get repair for free
Don't know whether the used cars get driven around more than through the town but the wastegate got stuck everytime I hit 120+ km/h, causing the power loss. The previous owner (got to know him later on) really didn't notice that as he just pushed the car through town on sundays.
>>
>>17841358
I suspect it was a scam. He nigger rigs it, sells it and pretends to be fair and offers to buy it at a reduced cost when it breaks.
>>
>>17841455
Just weld the wastegate shut.
>>
>>17841358
>>17841340

But private vehicle sales are "as is".

If I sold a vehicle to someone and it broke down, I have no idea if they drove the shit out of it and ruined it.
>>
>>17841336
I've had a salesman say that shit to me, I just replied
>well if you don't know about cars maybe you shouldn't be selling them
And that shut him up
>>
>>17841525
It's a little different if it broke down from internal issues not 15 minutes after buying it.

There's no legal recourse for private sales, except contacting the police to investigate people for assets/property received through deception. If there are prior instances of fraud-like practices these lowlives are pinged on the pigs might do something to harass them. Small claims are a waste of time and money.

Fell for the toyota meme. I bought a hilux that wound up being a fucking basket case. Drove a good 200ish miles to get it. Got there and everything seemed in order. Drove and ran fine. Drove it back 200 miles no problem. Week after I get it it develops some weird delayed starting issue that never got tracked down. Also developed a timing chain rattle. Got underneath it one day and found out it was a lost cause. Frame was rusted clean through. Transmission also started popping out of gear in first and third. Wiring was a fucking mess.

This just recently happened to me. Bought an 06 camry in seemingly great condition from a dealer. Not even a week later, the steering wheel lock engaged while i was driving it, and i completely lost control of my vehicle. Luckily i didn't crash, but it was fucking nerve wracking. Now i'm reading that toyota has recalled over 400,000 cars for steering issues, and i'm fucking mad that these dealers sold me a dangerous car. What do?

>go to MEINEKE after-hours (if you ever need illegal shit done..)

In my area it is a thing. Depending on your income, you can get up to $1500. My sibling just traded her decrepit jetta for that amount last week. It's probably a local thing then, considering I live in commiefornia.

>i bought it for $200 there were no losses involved

You sold it knowing damn well it wasn't worth what you sold it for even when it was fixed up. That in itself is low. No matter what, taking advantage of people's lack of knowledge is awful.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of them go for around there now. I'm glad that even though its still a piece of shit, its pretty clean. Minimal rust for a Kansas/Midwest car.

I was thinking about selling it but I honestly want to restore it and just keep it maintained and going. I hadn't really planned on any mods or anything other than a rear disk conversion. I'm afraid the fucker I would sell it to is going to molest it and crash or otherwise irreparably ruin it.

Not a car, but I bought a piece of shit Kawasaki GPZ500 once for way too much money. The owner said he had overhauled the engine, but it was a lie. After just 500km the engine shat itself and nobody had ever rebuilt it. Wasn't into wrenching back then so a friend of my dad's repaired the engine; parts were very expensive.
Then when I got it running again it worked for about 1000km until it burned a valve. To fix that I replaced the cylinder head with a used one from another bike, but then the bike lost oil pressure so I just gave up and sold it as parts for a ridiculously low price.

That was 10 years ago but I haven't owned a Kawasaki ever since and probably never will.

It's a bit of a grey area to be honest. If the car breaks down on the drive home I would be pretty pissed too. On the other hand, my parents once sold their own minivan to a family that took it on a cross-country road trip and then brought it back demanding a full refund. There were no problems with the minivan they just wanted a free rental

01 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 4wd 5 speed

Found out after selling it that it had a 2500 weighted drive shaft. At the time I did t know why but the drivetrain shook itself apart constantly. U joints shattered dropping driveshaft twice in the street, transfer case bolts sheared off, but the worst was that the bell housing literally snapped a huge chunk off. Got it welded back together once and then it happened again. Whined like hell but sold it to some kid who drove up from SC to buy it for $300 more than I paid for it. Feel bad but I never heard from him again.

Every time you change or clean a MAF you HAVE to let the ECU relearn idle & trim values.

>>
>>17857084

>>
>>17857086
I would, but when you are buying from a private seller, especially at the 3K civic range most of these guys are talking about, you better be prepared for a car that has issues, and know your basic homework on buying a car used.
>>
>>17857084
Over here in Eastern Europe I have to
-buy insurance every year for each car, you insure the car not the driver
-buy road tax sticker for each car (the roads are still shit however)
-pay yearly tax for each car
And that's after you own the car, to buy a used one you have to
-pay a jew notary to transfer the car
-pay for new licence plates (unless you live in the same administrative area with the seller in which case you can use the old ones)
-pay a one time "eco" tax if it's a new car or it has been imported into the country
It makes simply owning a car expensive and fuel isn't cheap either.

So far so good, just replaced oil, plugs and wires. Needs a new cold air filter, and might need some transmission work. Seems like something is blocking the shifter when I shift but I can still shift fine anyway... Maybe trans oil needs replaced? Bushings?

My #1 rule is NEVER buy a car from a Mexican.

Well, the Sunday before last, I broke my own rule for the second time. (The first was buying a rust-free '66 Imperial from a spic that was going to run it in a demo derby.)

This time, I was after a '68 Cadillac convertible. See ad, run the plate, comes back titled to a spic... HOWEVER, previous owner was white. Decide to say, "fuck it" and contact them. Make plans to drive the 250 miles to look at the car.

Car is, indeed, rust-free. Under the hood I see a new Edelbrock carb, redone valve covers, and half a set of those stupid "hot-rod" valve cover retainers on each side. They don't belong under the hood of a Cadillac.

He starts up the car and it has a notable exhaust leak. I see it's coming from the driver's side manifold where there's a loose stud. Jew mode engaged. Inspect the rest of the car and lowball him for $8k. He accepts and I proceed to drive the car back.

Halfway through the trip, I stop at a gas station. I shut the car off and check the oil; there's a leak at the valve cover on the passenger's side. Gaskets look new, so I try to snug it up. The bolts are 10mm; WTF?! It's a '68 Cadillac! Do the best I can with my Imperial tool kit; add oil, and go to fill the car.

Pull back the license plate and, after a moment of confusion, I let out an angry bellow. There's a fucking LOCKING GAS CAP on the car and I don't have the key!

Fucking spics! I have to have the car towed home because I can't put gas in it.

When I get the car home, the 75-year-old retired wrecker driver next door comes by and looks at it. I tell him the problem and he says he'll be right back.

He has a lockpicking kit and it's like something out of Fallout; he spins the pieces around and has the cap off in under 30 seconds.

I'm still happy with the car, but I have no idea what else I'll find. Fucking spics. Every fucking time.

Cash for clunkers was literally a government/car manufacturer ploy to decrease the amount of used cars on the market because you could buy a shitbox for under a grand and insure it for nothing. It was especially bad during the recession right before the program started. People were so desperate to either try and stop foreclosures on their houses, or just get cash in hand, that you could E A S I L Y buy a 90's shitbox for anywhere between $100-1000.
>My cousin bought a Ford Taurus SHO with 90k for $750

Google it, do some research. Find a write up, find everything you need. Do it, LS Miata.

>See Ford Probe for sale 3hr from home
>Been looking all over for one, was about to fly to Washington State 3000mi away to look at one
>Saved a ton of money up to buy a cherry copy
>Go to purchase this one
>Literally one hour from seller's house he calls and says it leaks water from the front of the engine and it just started doing this
>Get there, immaculate interior absolutely flawless
>No check engine light, sounds healthy, AC doesn't work whatever I can fix that
>Sure enough, it's pissing water everywhere, and it's brown
>Fuck, well I know it needs a new water pump and that means timing belt too so I get to lowball him now
>He takes the lowball for 900 bucks
>I get it home after filling the rad twice
>Do timing belt, water pump, new door speakers, new headunit, new lift struts for the hatch
>AC compressor is shot, still needs rear speakers, door panels are Pancho-rigged together, VGC's leak like a bitch, needs tires since it sat for 10 years apparently, judging from the service stickers on it

I spent almost the cost of the car in new parts to make it driveable, but I still regret nothing it would have gone to the scrapyard and they're hard enough to find as it is so I saved one I guess

I always hated the strict safety inspections in my country.
This thread cured me.
>>

Nah, you're just a cuck in a cuck country, safety inspections are for I D I O T S, and as you can read through most of this thread, it's the uninformed people that get fucked, which they should.

What? The plates are registered to you, not the car? Confused Californian here, all we have to do is mail a reg form to the DMV when we sell a car to release liability, and the plates stay with the vehicle.

I've never really been scammed, maybe overpaid a few times, but every car I've bought has had some nigger rigged level repair on it.

If it's any consolation the DMV wised up and banned it.

Also is this plate better?
>>
>>17858687
Sad part is I did the same with another truck, but the fuck up wasn't my fault.

Paid 300$ for a 4x4 s10 blazer 1985. Before clunkers b.s.. truck got stolen and wrecked after cfc got it back . Sold it for 300$ to a guy who wanted it for demo derby.

Not really a nightmare purchase but just stupid young me making uninformed decisions
>entering collage and know nothing about cars but think I do
>need a vehicle to get there and home
>looking for anything with a V8
>completely ignore all sorts of deals on fun, cheap cars because I NEED TO HAVE A V8
>end up buying a grand prix thinking it's a super sports car
>put all sorts of cosmetic mods on it to make it look "cooler"
>actually get into cars for real and start to regret my purchase and stupid mods
It's actually been really reliable for me, but I wish I had gotten something RWD and manual instead.

So your dumbass towed the car home instead of asking the wrecker to unlock the gas cap? Lol
>>
>>17864735
No, no. My NEIGHBOR unlocked the gas cap; he's a retired wrecker driver. The guy who towed my car couldn't do it and AAA said it would have been 4 hours before a locksmith could be dispatched. It was quicker to have it towed home.
