Yeah, we just pulled into our terminal, 75 NB reports on the radio saying backed up to Chattanooga, wife said NB rest areas are so full cars have trucks blocked into thier parking spots and police are stopping people from trying to get in.

It actually wasn't dispatch. It was entirely the broker. They had mentioned a possible 0630 appointment time yesterday but didn't say it had been set in stone, and didn't give me a new appt ref number or tell me the old one was ok now (guard said it literally wasn't on the computer's schedule program), so I got stuck in limbo waiting for them. Thankfully after I got checked in today, the consignee had me unloaded in 30 minutes. The guard said the home office literally always overbooks Fridays so it basically becomes first-come-first-serve all day but you still have to provide an appt ref number to get in.

My mom's friend just left Broward to head to Orlando where it's her and her two teenage sons. You can barely get gas anywhere and the Turnpike is a mess. So if she doesn't run out of gas, she will get to her friend's place where hopefully she has hurricane supplies for one or two people, not fucking 4.

So many people went to Orlando and they are going to get hit hard, so I'm sure it's just as difficult to get water and gas up there. Plus building codes in Broward and Dade are much more strict so you are probably safer with 130mph winds in Broward than 100mph winds in Orlando.

Keks it wasn't dispatch's fault this time around. Broker gave us a handful of numbers and said the appt was scheduled and we were good to go. Dispatch couldn't have known this would happen. Generally I respect the shit out of semis on the highway but lately I think companies are adding systems that score the driver based on his driving tendencies like speed, braking, acceleration, etc.

This has caused a problem to me and my fellow car drivers because when a semi comes up on another semi who is doing 1mph lower than he is, the faster semi will enter the passing lane and proceed to pass at 1mph faster than the other semi, instead of doing the right thing and speeding up a bit during the pass.

It makes me so fucking angry when they do this.
Ive started getting revenge though:

Reading through this thread made me remember my step-father, who was a trucker until he was diagnosed with end stage stomach cancer at the turn of the decade.

Thinking back, the poor guy really seemed to struggle a lot to get ahead. He tried so many different things and ran into so many problems that he wound up being a net financial drain on the family despite trying so hard to make a living.

Not to mention that he was away from home so often that I never even got close to him despite the decade or so that he was married to my mother. Can't say I idealize the lifestyle.

Trucking ain't for sissies this is a grown man's business you're going to have days where you're cranking down high trailers at 65,000lb gvwr and it's 115 outside with no breeze, and three months later you'll be doing the same thing and it's -5 out.

If you get with a company that pays by the hour, $20/hr is typically going to be the minimum. It can go to ~$35/hr with a few years experience and a good company - though that's usually for the construction jobs that want you doing 10-hour shifts 5 days per week.

Actually video games generally use little bandwidth, sometimes less than 15MB/hr. There are exceptions of course - for some reason, Destiny uses 300-400MB/hr. Even Splatoon 2 on the switch uses 150MB/hr
