please please do it, ban the diesel vehichles and ban older gasoline cars, please. I wanna see them cry after a near 3/4 of the supply chain, if not more, comes to a complete grinding half because they're following the law and prices go up because of it.

How can you move to ban something when no alternaitve exists. Even if an charging infrastructure existed, there isn't enough lithium production in the entire world in the next 30 years for them to make 500k teslas let alone any other electric car or cell phone batteries or anything else. so please do this shit and face the fucking results.
>>
>>17835986
Idiots also expect all that electricity to come from nowhere for free.

Electric cars definitely ARE a lot more efficient but to produce them and to keep them running lots of damage is done to this planet which all those faggots won't admit.
>>
>>17836002
same idiots who think self driving cars will destroy the car industry as if anyone but taxi companies are actually gonna buy them
>>
>>17836014
but anon, they'll just BAN manually driven cars because that's the best for EVERYONE!
>>
>>17836022
that would be the day we all become bikers
>>
>>17836022
Ban will not happen but they will make it so expensive (because a computer can react much faster!!!111 look at planes, there it works really well too!!!!!!!!!!!111) so that insurance will be laughably expensive and no one will simply be able to afford it or it won't be reasonable.

Result will effectively be the same and hands rubbing intensifies.

This, they'll just force anyone that wants to drive a manual car to pay higher road tax and insurance. They already do it, insurance companies should only assess the value of your vehicle and the likelihood of you crashing it, but they don't. Not a Hybrid or EV? That's a price rise. Doesn't have expensive features like parking sensors? That's a price rise. Not an Automatic? That's a price rise. It looks remotely sporty? That's a price rise.

ON TOP OF THIS they will probably also say shit like "our numbers show that over proportionally many drivers who prefer manually driven or even MANUALLY SHIFTED cars (oh golly, how archaic~ ) get into accidents. We are really sorry but we're forced to increase the fees for your car to stay competitive :( "
>>
>>17836075
They wouldn't be wrong. manuel cars in the city are hell for a reason, and with the way women drive resting their foot on the clutch, they will wear it out quicker, making it more likely that it will take longer for it to "catch" meaning they will always have a lesser control of their car than someone with an automatic.

wish people would stop acting as if manual was superior because of XYZ, if you can drive fine with it thats great, but why would you want driving to be extra difficult simply for the sake of being extra difficult and nothing else? I can easily see how standard transmission would have higher accident rates than automatics for a number of reasons.
>>
>>17836089
>why would you want driving to be extra difficult simply for the sake of being extra difficult and nothing else?
driving with a manual transmission is fun and involved, it's as simple as that.
>>
>>17836089
It is not "better" on average but it is better FOR YOU if you want to be involved as much as possible. It also makes things less boring.

Of course it's idiotic to hunt a meme when you're actually not into that kind of car fun.

I have seen at least three women literally cry over manual transmissions, saying they hate it so much because they get scared before starting the car and then when something happens (having to start on a hill signal or actually rolling backwards into someone) they have mental breakdowns.

Then you have all those numales that usually take the train or bus and see driving a car as annoyance.
These people are the majority now if you want it or not and those actively shape the car future since a car manufacturer can't afford to look at a hand full enthusiasts, especially on this global market.
Back when domestic market had the highest priorities, experimenting or catering to smaller groups was possible, now it is a monstrous gamble and 99% of the time not worth it, sadly.

>My automatic car just moved forward without me touching anything!
>I pressed the brake I swear! But the car just kept on accelerating!
Yeah yeah, that last one is in no way exclusive to automatics I know

Extra difficult? It's an extremely simple, mindless operation unless you're going for a no-clutch shift, in which case it needs a bit more attention. Usually transmissions designed for clutchless shifts are made to facilitate them, tho

Also, one of the advantages manual has is simplicity and general dependability. Less sensors, actuators, and miscellaneous items such as wiring to get fuck'd up. And when whatever fucks up does go wrong, it isn't as complicated or expensive to fix

Try harder

I'm not going to glue a block of wood to the pedal in my brand new $20,000+ car.

On a different note, it bugs me that none of the dealers within 200 miles of me have a 2.5l manual Mazda 3 on the lot. I really want to try driving that one.

I'm 5'5". When I drove a 2015 Mazda 3 I had to put the seat all the way forward and even then I had to stretch to get the clutch to the floor. It's probably because I'm all torso. I have about a 28" inseam.

And scratch what I said about manual 2.5s. There's a lot about 90 minutes away that has one. I know what I'm doing Monday morning.

Kudzu is a plant you can make biofuel out of you retard
>>
>>17849507
you can literally make biofuel out of anything that is organic. the problem isnt finding a plant you can make biofuels out of you fucking moron.

the problem is raising that crop, whatever that may be, industrially at scale, and process it industrially at scale. The reason why it becomes political is because, all that land you would need to raise that fuel, has to come from somewhere, and currently we already use all that land for food production, so you'd have to cut food production in order to produce fuel, not to mention the ridiculous water foot print issues that would arise from this.
>>
Kudzu is readily available at the side of the road, and in the time it takes to clean the south of all its kudzu it's all grown back again

>Implying that ICE bans are about replacing ICE vehicles with electrics and not about forcing people onto trains/buses
>>
The most efficient means of generating a biofuel isn't roadside weeds, its algae. There are specific strains of algae that grow and produce more oil for converting into fuel. They can mass produce this in vertical systems and make an awful lot of it for relatively little money. The issue isn't the fuel source, the issue is refining it. There still is no cost effective way to render out that biodiesel that isn't energy and time intensive.

Biofuel hit a wall years ago because of this.
>>
>>17849740
Really makes you think
>>
>>17849768
Basically as long as its cheap/legal to pump oil out of the ground and put carbon back into the atmosphere that's been sequestered there since the carboniferous biofuels aren't going to be competitive.

They'll probably be more of a last ditch way for novelty ICE cars to keep driving in a world dominated by electrics than a savior for the industry as it stands today. The cost of batteries and performance of electric cars is increasing too quickly now.

A lot of places already have overhead lines for powering trams, its not that difficult to imagine a truck or a bus with 100 or so miles of range on battery and that can use overhead power lines where available.
>>
>>17849801
We need radically different rechargeable batteries before the internal combustion engine is threatened in any real way. The energy density of fuel is just too high for batteries to really compete. Electric motors make a lot of headway by having a more efficient cycle when it comes to extrapolating stored potential into movement, but the most advanced li-ons are way more than a full magnitude behind gasoline when it comes to energy density.

We'd almost be better off finding a way to rapidly metabolize sugar into electricity as we already known how to achieve it with enzyme reactions. 100lbs of sugar would put 1000lbs of li-ons to absolute shame. Hell, straight fat would be even better.
>>
>>17849915
For long-range commercial stuff, some combo of batteries, fuel cells, and grid power is probably the answer. Though having something come out of left field like a bio cell, or a sodium air battery, or a real nuclear powered car wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

For most people's daily drivers though batteries probably aren't far off as a solution.

The only other power source that might work is liquid hydrogen but that would require dramatically redesigning aircraft to cope with the much greater fuel volume (but reduced weight). Flying wings might make a comeback.

I'm american and I've been to other continents and our food is over-sugared slop compared to everywhere else. Everything from US has sugar in it for no reason and our sugary treats have EVEN MORE sugar than they should. Less is more. After a day or two of eating food from other places in the world, you get used to it and everything tastes so much better because there isn't a pound of sugar overpowering the natural taste of the food. After eating in Germany for a week I didn't want to come back home. Unless you only buy the most basic ingredients of food and become a master chef and cook all your own shit, it's impossible to get the same tastes here. Shit even the produce at walmart is genetically engineered to be more giant and juicy and sweet than it's supposed to be. It's completely fucked.

It isnt talked about because of all the hype with EV vehicles but nobody mentions that the metals to make those batteries are also terrible for the environment, are conflict minerals and also sometimes get mined by child workers.
Renewable fuels are definitely not a bad option. Hydrogen vehicles also seem like a good option too. why put a giant battery when you can have an efficient hybrid with a small battery and renewable fuel. Mazda is right that is a better solution and easier to implement.

Mazda is making some good moves right now. With this HCCI Tech combined with toyotas Hybrid tech that their borrowing they are gonna get some outstanding range, as well good car performance. Seems like as soon as toyota heard that mazda figured out HCCI they came running to them to partner, makes alot of sense for both sides

I saw this 20 years ago as a kid in my head stuck at stop lights. If the AI was precise enough you wouldn't need to stop at an intersection the intersection could wave you through in packets at most you'd have to slow down or speed up to bunch up and then let a packet going the other way through would be nearly seamless.
>>
>>17853053
I had the idea too, tried explaining it to my parents and they just went "if everyone started moving at the same time they'd crash into each other."

The logic behind it is sound, but resistance from society comes in the form of privacy concerns. For this to work, all the cars have to talk to each other and a server somewhere that organizes their actions in real time, unless the cars themselves split up the processing duties with on-board computers. They'd still be talking to some central server though, so they could be monitored and patched. So the company or companies in charge of this technology would have access to your whereabouts 100% of the time, and they'd likely sell that information to advertisers because that's the go-to way to make money in the information industry these days. They'd also hand that information over to the government when asked, or just give the government a backdoor into the servers so they don't even need a warrant. Resistance to this information-trading will be met with "if you aren't a criminal then you have nothing to hide!" And the same logic extends to painting people who value their privacy and continue using old tech as criminals. Do you want to live in that world?

They're not wrong.

It really always depends on the driver. if you have a seasoned driver, standard or automatic may not amount to anything, the manual may keep him paying more attention, if he's a stressed out dude already, it may make him drive more recklessly vs auto.

If you have a new fresh licensed driver, standard may still be difficult to handle vs automatic.

One thing I seen looking up accident rates of auto vs standard is they say that stick shift drivers tend to be more stressed while driving and that automatic transmission drivers have the about the same heart rate as their passengers. That alone is a interesting fact.

What we can agree on is that the learning curve for standard is going to be different than it is for automatic.
