You need it to say Activated Carbon and not just carbon. Just because the chinese grind some charcoal briquets and mix that into the HEPA filter slurry before spraying it on a drying form doesn't mean the carbon works like activated carbon.

Activated carbon air filters also do not last very long in terms of odor or chemical absorption. That's why they have rather short lifespan ratings for the activated carbon part of the filter. The HEPA part lasts a long time though so that is probably the lifespan rating you'll see printed on the filter. There probably won't be a separate rating for the activated carbon part of the filter.
