I wanna install a new tachometer in my 69 beetle, people reccommend atleast 18 or 20 guage AWG wire but all I have on hand is 16 gauge speaker wire. Will the wire burn out or will I be fine?

You've got it backwards. 16 gauge is bigger than 18. So you'll be fine

>speaker wire
It will look terrible to the trained eye.

I noticed that, but I thought it was because of the material of the wire as 18 tends to be silver stranded while beefy 16 and 12 guage are copper

Copper is better than aluminum. Is it solid or stranded?

gauge is related to the thickness of the wire, determined by the number of times the metal must be run through the stretching machine to make it, so lower numbers indicate thicker wire.
