What does /o/ think of the Fiero? I'm picking up pic related next Sunday as a project. It's a 1986 2M4 with a 2.5L L4 and a Muncie 5-Speed gearbox.
It needs a clutch master, slave, and a shifter cable before I can drive it, but I'm also gonna beef up the suspension, new tires, new brakes, maybe a V6 swap, and a cheap paint job on it.
Thoughts?
early fieros are the aw11 but infinitely shittier

Strangely enough, in a Motortrend faceoff, the '84 Fiero (literally the worst Fiero) proved to handle and brake a lot better than the MR2, and well as still delivering enough power to be enjoyable to drive.

>2.5
You'll need to purchase a sundial to time your 0-60. Also enjoy your fires.

>Motortrend
They were shilling the fuck out of their domestic cars and everyone who knew better at the time called bullshit.

Engine fires and failures were caused by a number of things, mainly oil dripping off the valve cover and hitting the exhaust or the engine wiring loom hitting the exhaust, and a batch of poorly-cast connecting rods. All three problems were fixed by 1985. It's true though, the 2.5 is pretty gutless, which is why I'll probably eventually swap in a beefed-up Fiero GT V6 into it.
the '86 2m4 came with an Isuzu 5 speed, not a Muncie. This is a problem if you plan on doing an engine swap, as the Isuzu might not handle increased power that well.

LT swap , make the car GM fears
>friend tells me he wants one and is seriously considering it as his DD
>dude the fires tho
>15min long explanation that only select models blah blah
>two days later watch a fiero burn down to the frame in a office max parking lot

It looks awesome, I'm just not trying to cut or modify the frame too much, and with a V6, it's pretty cramped for space

This is out there, but if you can get your hands on the TT V6 LF4 from an ATS-V, swap it in. It would be amazing.

That'd be the best to swap it, the Iron duke is beyond gutless. It's woefully boring even by slow car standards. That said I had one in a Cutlass Ciera, and the thing was fucking dependable as the rest of the car disintegrated around it.
When buying a Fiero, generally the rule is this--You're gonna wind up with one of these two things:
-A great, unique build that's fun to drive
-All the herpes
Just fix it up throw a body kit on it and sell it for 10x the price to some highschool kid trying to look rich
Do an ecotec swap

Yeah, that's what I've heard. I plan on doing a motor swap, but it'll be one of the last things I do to it. First I'll do clutch cylinders, then brakes, then tires, then interior, next is whatever electronics need work, then paint, then I'll beef up the suspension for better handling, and then, only after I'm content with all of this, will I do a swap. Probably a beefed-up Fiero V6, but I'm gonna spend some time researching other swaps.
