Nah bruv, the wheel will just smash your chest as the engine pushes the steering column back, and you'll end losing an arm and have a permanently disabled lung, so you'll wheeze along for the next 40 years collecting disability and hating every moment of life.

NASCAR drivers commonly survive crashes at 200 mph. Consumer vehicles have a 65% fatality rate ate 60mph. Engineers are payed to cut cost and they can do that by cutting and cuting until they just barely pass safety tests. Unibody is a cost saving measure. Clearly car can be made infinity safer.

exactly, and 0 crumble zones. they are a way to make poorly made vehicles barely pass safety tests, because their performance is adjustable, by changing the gage of steel. also hitting a pit divider at 200 is the same as a head-on colision.

Consumers can't be assed to take five minutes to strap into safety gear that doesn't let you sip coffee while driving.

Except for pic related, of course. These guys are even wearing fucking airbags now just to go down to the corner store. Some say that if they didn't insist on making that trip while going 200mph and dragging knee around every 90ยบ intersection they would be able to get away with shorts and a T shirt.
>>
>>17814475

Its an easy mistake to make. Assured clear distance isn't something we would necessarily calculate to include space to steer off the road while being suddenly struck from behind. Let it be a lesson to the rest of us.
>>
>>17814681
That literally is one of the main things you need to be aware of at all times in order to even get a drivers license. All over the world the main rule in driving law is if you hit from behind its your fault. You are supposed to be prepared to come to a full and safe stop at all times depending on the circumstances.

If I am driving behind you and you come to a full stop, if I hit your back end because I couldn't come to a full stop, then I was going to fast for the distance I was keeping from your back end, or simply didn't account for the stopping distance, either way its your fault.

The trucker situation though is even more egregious, that fucker could be empty or loaded down with 80 tonnes of whatever, the truck driver as a professional driver, is supposed to be aware of his safe stopping distance is gonna be long as fuck, he was too fucking close to that car if he couldn't come to a stop without literally crushing the car in the middle.

have an agenda. Everyone has to be equally safe. If all cars crumpled equally, no one would come out of an accident either more or less injured.

>>
>>17814788
Certainly the dad that got crushed with his little girl wasn't legally at fault and his widow should presumably see a large settlement but that doesn't bring her family back.

My point is that maybe if he'd have stopped further back from the truck in front of him and/or had a quicker reaction MAYBE he could have turned enough to make it to the median between when he started being pushed and the impact with the back of the truck in front of him.

There having been a theoretical way to have avoided death doesn't make him at fault for not having done it. It's just helpful to me when I see these horrific accidents to at least try to think about the physics and maybe become just a slightly safer driver in the process but I have a five year old of my own. I imagine my wife and my 2-ton American parentmobiles would fare somewhat better even in the same exact circumstances though.

I bought a Mid Sized SUV for the first time to put a car seat in the middle of it. Imported it onto a island where is it's larger than 90% of the other vehicles just to protect my kid.
>>
>>17815685
Obviously the semi driver who crushed them is entirely at fault but it doesn't matter the little girl and her dad are still mangled hamburger.

>>17815698
That's really the secret point of crash "safety" that is less of a secret all the time. Crash test ratings are based on hitting an immovable object (like a semi) when in the majority of accidents the "bigger vehicle wins" rule is at least in partial effect. Once in a while I drive him to preschool in my 80s sports coupe to get him a few cool points when the weather's nice but it always nags at me how much less safe it feels than my lifted half ton pickup, for him. Then even when I'm by myself in it sometimes I still worry about what he'd do without me - but that's just a dad worry you get sometimes no matter what you do.

that is crazy, one of the most popular cars in the country to be such a death trap. I looked up the 08 F250, I used one at work all the time. the upper body literally comes off the frame on this video.

but with 2 or 3 vending machines on the bed of the truck, if we did hit something, we'd be dead anyway.

While I can't find any specific info on it, I don't think it's any real good, despite having 2 airbags, some crumple zones and rather large tubes in the doors for side impact protection, it's a late 80s/early 90s design

I'd rather not find out

Literally saw a guy eat it at 100 and flip last week. P sure the only reason he lived is cause he got thrown off the bike. Dude was pretty much fine too, surprisingly.

Anyways safety is 4 nerdz, just pop a wheelie if you're in a dangerous situation. It gives you a smaller profile so it's harder for predators to track your movements.

Yeah, don't dissipate energy by crumpling metal and breaking microstructure, just go ahead and let the passenger experience the full crash. That's the way a driver's car should really do it, because crashing and dying is a part of being a real driver!

I pilot small aircraft. I laugh at those who think what I do is more dangerous than driving a car.
Flying the aircraft, I have zero obstacles in the sky I can hit. There's miles of free space around me. While driving a car, you are constantly passing solid objects at high speeds, everywhere. It just takes one tire blowout or one wrong pull on the steering handle and it can be over. With my aircraft I have lots of time to react, and if something does go wrong I can always jump out with my parachute which I always secretly carry.

A fast-moving tin can is still quite scary to fly and much more to crash-land, shyamalam

Would you be able to open the door to bail out of the plane with the wind blowing on it? What's more, wouldn't the airplane lose it's shit if you let go of the stick for long? What do if a control surface or it's controlling mechanism gets fucked? What do when microburst?

I know that flying aircraft is fundamentally different from cars, and measures are taken to avoid accidents in the first place, but all it takes is a situation where your lift is gone, and you're FUBAR

>Yeah, don't dissipate energy by crumpling metal and breaking microstructure,

But it does exactly that. The metal and microstructure of your car. Thank you for decelerating my body on frame truck.

If I die running into a bridge support column, that's my fault and I deserve it. If someone else cuts me off, they'll end up pretty much like
>>17810163

I'll bet that truck driver came out OK.
>>
>>17826944
You don't seem to understand. The amount of energy transferred to your car literally cannot change because the other car crumples. The collision is basically completely inelastic, which fully defines the change in kinetic energy (for each car). The fact that you think you're safe because your car is heavier but has shit safety engineering just proves to me that you really do deserve to be taken out of the gene pool, and equating a giant semi (with crumple zones, I might add) that weighs probably 10 tons to what I assume is a standard pickup truck shitbox from the 80's makes me think that running head on into a brick wall will make you a little more reasonable.
