I want to buy a 16 valve model corrado and just wanted to know if theyre reliable or not and if there is anything I need to know about them.

I live in europe so theyre not too rare like in the US

Give me your opinions please

Regular old 2.0, right? Those engines are bombproof.
Easy to work on too, since the engine bay can fit a VR6 but there's only an inline 4 in there.
>>
They're not horrible, despite the 'VW is shit' meme on here. Repairs will be a pain in the dick though.

Either a 1.8 or a 2.0.

>>17810124
Really? Why? The engine bays seem spacious enough to work.

>'VW is shit' meme
explain? trying to lurk here and learn
>>
>>17810161
almost all of them had defective sunroofs
problems with the rear spoiler
misc electrical issues will happen
the supercharger is notorious for wearing out
>>
they can be a money pit
Electronics die like flies
Parts are expensive and rare

This helped me when I was I the market for one

Usually americans that say this. In Europe VWs have an excellent reputation.
American/Mexican VWs use cheaper alloys and trims and tend to rust more.

Also the price and availability of parts is relevant. If you're spending and upwards of twice as much as a similar domestic part and also having to wait for it to be shipped because only specialists keep an excess of german parts around it gets obnoxious unless if you're a hobby mechanic with space and time to do a lot of the small work yourself. Also finding good mechanics for any Euro or Japanese car can be difficult depending on where you are for those things that require more than $500 and an afternoon.

Apparantly they use the same sunroof and motor as the passat of the same generation, and i know about that for the spoiler im not too worried about that.

I plan on geting a naturally aspirated model because of that. I read up the superchargers can be almost 1k to rebuild or fix.

I have some experience with the 2.0 8V and those things just will not die, ever. The 16V is pretty similar, just DOHC instead of SOHC.
Make sure you change the timing belt on time and keep up with oil changes and those engines will outlive you.

You will encounter some random electrical gremlins though, usually sensors or relays that shit the bed.
>>
>>17814259
Pretty sure 8v were only sold in the uk sadly
>>
>>17814365
They're economical and reliable, but slow, so in a Corrado you'd want the 16V anyway.
They're from the same engine family and are almost identical design-wise, but obviously the 16V makes more power.
>>
>>17814365
in the usa we only got the g60 and 2.8 vr6
they only sold the 16v ONE YEAR in the scirocco here.
the scirocco is a better car but the gearing sucks.
>>
What about a G60 as starter car? Possible or not?
I'm in yermoney so parts shouldn't be a problem

because you are german, you might understand it better. go for it. personally i like the 16v
>>
>>17814454
many here are G60s, you almost can't find the 2.0 in stock spec
>>
>>17814467
whatever. if you like it thats fine. it just doesn't feel exciting and sounds a lot worse than the vr6
its probably better to drive if you increase the boost
>>
>>17814495
I've been looking at 200SX S13 and Skyline Sedans too, so I'll try to grab anything clean and stock that comes up. I want to keep them all stock, I heard the G-Charger is very unreliable.
>>
>>17814526
As people have said earlier ITT, yeah, they tend to fail quite often and a rebuild is usually upwards of 1k.
>>
>>17814543
>earlier ITT
...Must've gotten confused with another thread, probably the Golf III thread that's now in the archive.
>>
>>17814543
well its an old car. thats part of it.
