Can someone tell me the make and year of this car? I am sure it is a Detroit product.
One of you experts will know just by looking what I would need a week of searching to find out.
Thanks in advance for any help.

A million thanks my friend. I had no idea even where to start looking.
That is my dad. He was colorblind, and once bought a 59 Pontiac at night that he thought was tan. The next morning it was pig pink.

He's got it. Postwar cars tend to look pretty similar, especially GM's, so you've gotta look for the few standout parts, usually the chrome details and lines. In this case it's the chrone on the fender and door (reaches the end of the hump, doesn't continue past it) and the pattern on the piece by the rear wheelwell (evenly spaced horizontal stripes, as opposed to smaller top-biased stripes or the various other bumps and sizes the chevy, pontiac, and buick had).

Obviously if you can see the front or back of the car that's way more helpful, though.
Also, if you've got a good guess on the make but can't guess the exact marque, hit up Google and start just comparing by year. If you get lucky you can find scans of old sales brochures and advertisements that show all of a company's brands side-by-side for easy comparison. This one's for 1950, because I couldn't find one for '48 (shame it's not one year later, the 'Futuramic' styling from 49 on makes my dick HARD), but you get the point.
