We actually do care less. First and foremost outward appearance is everything, which explains why even our worst cars need to be try hard angry faced shits now. Anything you can do to look better off than your neighbor actually matters. Second most important is the actual numbers. How fast, how much displacement, how many people does it hold, fuel economy, etc. Interior is only an afterthought than can occasionally look nice depending on the time frame you're looking at.
