It's a GV250 (250cc), I'm loving it. It's bigger physically than any other 250 cruisers around (which is good for my 35" inseam and monkey arms) and quality-wise it feels as nice as my Suzuki VanVan200. Throttle response is nice and fast, and it sounds pretty nice for a 250 (because it's a v twin). Redline is 12k rpm, power band is pretty wide from about 4K to 8.5k rpm. Mileage is great at 85-95 mpg when I ride like a dick.
Gearbox feels alright, shifts aren't as nice as a nice jap bike, but it's smooth enough. Gear spacing is a bit odd, kind of large space between 3 and 4, but not dangerously wide.

Can comfortably ride 2-up, and there are TONS of OEM accessories.

Only negatives are that the carbs are a bitch to get at (need to pull the tank to get at them), stock horn is junk, and the seat isn't super comfy.

>>
>>17770765
You should at the very least ride one. Super duper silly fun.
I got the VanVan for farm duties as I wanted EFI, fairly light, small enough for GF to use, fat tires, and not expensve. It's been brilliant so far. Use it mostly for Hauling seed and inspecting fences and herding goats and such. Only ridden it on the actual road 3 times, but it's a hoot. Launches off curbs and bumps like it's his job.

The 70 Pontiac is a family heirloom and it's pretty nice. Good for weekend cruises but it leaks a bit of oil and need suspension work. Hopefully that will all be sorted by the end of summer.

not him, but

Cruiser bikes like that are designed to be visually cool, but they have like the worse functionality. Harleys etc are stancefags for the boomer demographic.

That said, it does look pretty cool and that's all some people need to float their boat.
>>
>>17771211
Not the same guy, but Indian Scouts are some of the best looking modern cruisers IMO. It's hard for me to put into words why I think they've got it nailed down for my preferred cruiser aesthetic; I'm sure a lot of it is that the Scout doesn't try to be some huge, overly-chromed monstrosity that looks like it could take up a whole traffic lane in its own right, but I also think Indian did a really good job of blending classic cruiser elements with modern design styles and the perfect amount of minimalism.

as far as the one in your picture, I can't say I'm a fan of the wrapped exhaust, and while the little storage bag is, I'm sure, functional, it looks a little out of place.

Bars tend to work better in any crash at speed and is doable on a naked bike

From the my state's motorcycle knowledge test:

"To swerve correctly:
A - Press the handlegrip in the direction of the turn
B - Shift your weight quickly
C - Press the handlegrip in the opposite direction of the turn

Evidently C is incorrect. No countersteering for us.

Cruiser riders in general put more miles on their bikes and will be riders for 20-50 years, meanwhile all sportbike guys will hit puberty and say that riding is "too spoopy for me" somewhere in their mid 20s and start driving minivans or something.

I'm in Norway. These bikes usually go for 50k, with a lot more miles on them than this one has. I don't understand why it's so cheap. Is the engine broken? Is the frame bent? Have they done some sort of fuckery with it? It seems to have sliders and crash bars, so that might be a bad sign.

Either your riding season is about 1 month or the owner did not really use it. Or they crashed it and changed to instrument panel. Or they don't need it at all and sell it because "it as a bad idea to buy a bike after all"
>Is the engine broken?
You can tell by the sound, by how it behaves on idle, by wether it works steadily when you add gas.
>Is the frame bent?
Beside visual analysis you can tell that by riding in a straight line at 60+kmph. Bent frame will cause bike to lean to one side.

Thought: the ABS is low rent and will do more harm than good (think a system that robs up to 50% of braking potential through poor hydraulics).

ABS is largely an unnecessary addition to a bike anyway. The good systems are great, but the bad, meh and dangerous ones are all over the place, particularly in no frills brands like bajaj.

Expect cheap fittings that corrode, but the main power plant looks okay. DOHC 4 valve, fuel injection, tame power output. It's not under a lot of stress so should put along for a while.

Cheap and cheerful commuter bike, really. I'd say you'd get two trouble free years out of it if it was maintained properly before miscellaneous things started going wrong.

This sounds over the top, but is unfortunately true (at least for their road bikes, off road is a different kettle of fish).

Got a mate that does KTM warranty work. The little 300s they sell are just a nightmare, to the point where the dealership is seriously considering no longer stocking them because of the man hours involved in fixing up fatal faults (blown headgaskets within 20 hrs, crank bearing failure, transmission failure, oil pump failures, anything you can imagine, a duke 390 has had it happen to it).

Meanwhile the 1290s are apparently quite reliable - we figure they really put the effort in on the flagships and just shit out the little ones to make dirty profits.

There's no 750cc class anymore, so nothing to gain by squeezing more out of it. The 600s are going that way too due to euro4 drama.

I vaguely remember a suzuki rep talking about feedback on that set up being negative from some testers (didn't like the feel of a pure robot throttle or something).

>>17772478
The GS500 is objectively the best beginner bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke twin cylinder bike, so it drinks less than 6 liters per 100 km.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport, spoiling you for when you get something else. But it can also corner much better than something like a cruiser, and actually uses its entire rear tire unlike a Ninja 250.
> brakes
They are complete shit and their only redeeming feature is that they're disc brakes. This is good because the longer braking distance forces new riders to plan ahead and start braking early. No ABS means they learn to brake properly I'd they don't want to get shrekt.
> power
It sits right at the power limit for A2 bikes which is great for euros. It's torquey enough to be faster off the line than most cars you'll encounter in the city. But it also feels relatively gutless so a) it's forgiving of mistakes and b) you can ride it at the limit without putting yourself into too much danger. It reaches up to 180 km/h which is fast enough for highway riding.
> carbs
It being carbed means that if you run into problems, you can learn to fix them yourself instead of heading to the mechanic every time.
> seating position
Upright, slightly forward means it's a neutral riding position so you can figure out what you want afterwards. The seat is relatively uncomfortable making literally every other bike after it will feel like heaven on your ass.
> price and availability
Parts and the bikes themselves are cheap and plentiful. If you crash and fuck up one of your fairings it's 40 euros to replace it with original parts. Engine needs little maintenance. Beginner riders are typically not financially independent, so this is a big plus for them.
> suspension
It's a budget suspension factoring into the overall low cost of getting a GS 500. If you want better suspension it's easy to swap. Therefore it gives beginners an opportunity to learn working on suspension while keeping the cost manageable.
>>
>>17772569
A Wr250R on the used market costs about as much as an early 2000s liter or fairly recent 600. Sometimes a fairly recent liter if you stumble upon an "im fucking scared of this bike get it away from me" special.

Seriously, it's a $3-4k bike.

And everyone I know who buys into slow bike fast is really immature and rides like it. "Hooning at the speed limit" comes up in their arguments 100% of the time.

Just because a bike has a bad community doesn't mean it isn't great or worth it compared to the competition, and it doesn't mean you have to be like the community.

>>

But arch is hot garbage, and the best distros (funtoo and slackware) also have the best community.

Nice arch users are inevitable gentoo/funtoo/slackware users and mature shitbike riders will inevitably get something with displacement. You'll see.

hello everyone, I have a pic related which is a mildly high-strung 2 stroke
I bought it in the winter and it ran fine, but my city has like 50°C of difference between summer and winter
now the engine simply dies if I dont keep it over 6k rpm for more than a handful of seconds and when going normally it has less power and it really struggles to reach the power band, making power delivery a nightmare.
When it dies out, though, it refuses to turn back on and I have to wait 5 minutes, no matter how much I start kicking (no electric starter)
I even had a guy pushing me and it sounded like the ignition wasnt doing anything, I had to wait
is this normal and what changes by simply letting it sit for 5 minutes?

my conception was that if it died because of rich jetting, it wouldnt be able to fire unless I clean what's been fouled or that if it could re-start, it would do so immediately
I just want to be sure I have no ignition problems and it's just the jets

What you want is Supermoto stuff. Looks likedirt, but made to skid on pavement. All-leather or part-leather. Often built-in armor, but check. Pure dirt stuff never has armor, you're expected to strap on that stuff underneath.

Also, nylon > polyester but polyester sure is cheap. the "D" stands for "denier" and is a measure of how thick the thread is. 500D is minimum for Nylon on pavement, 1000D is super but impossible to find anymore. 900D poly might be as good as 500D Nylon, dunno.

Why did the spoke brake off in the first place? You may have uneven tension, or some such.

That being said, if you can get a single spoke, try replacing it, and if the wheel is still straight afterwards, be happy.

You can replace one spoke, there is no need to re lace the entire wheel for one broke spoke.

You'll have to remove the tire, and you'll need a cheap spoke wrench. Flick the replaced spoke with your finger and it'll make a " ting " sound. Make the tone match the other spokes when you do them. It'll get you close enough on tension for one replaced spoke. If you have any others that are loose ( sound is dull/low ) snug them up a bit too.

Sure.
Go slow, keep your lines, stand on balls of feet, and use rear brake.

That's just sad.

What job?

And yes, you can do it. It'd be a better idea to find a factory, though.
- Join a temp company
- Creep around industrial parks, writing the names on the doors into a notebook

Repeat one or two until you find somewhere that says union on the website. They'll have the highest starting pay.
Then walk into the glass door with the name printed and ask for an application.

None for <5 min rides. Reusable concert earplugs for < 60 min rides. Foams for > 60 min or whenever I'm feeling the extra quiet.

I wish they sold quieter sumos in my country. Between riding and concerts I don't want to hear ringing even more than I already do.

They don't know if you are looking at them.

Make sure to wave to cute girls
