What do you think about soviet cars?
Many have their own fuel and oil standards.
They are dangerous.
They aren't reliable.
They are hard to get parts for.
I'm from eatern european not big deal about parts tho
My dad told me that when you finally got your hands on one essentially had to unscrew and reassemble the engine because the people who put the thing together could not care less.
Once you tinkered with it you could make it run really smooth. If you were lucky you could get a model from the factory that zinced the paint so it did not rust to shit.
Once the wall fell and he got his hands on a Audi 80, he never looked back.
They drive and could be maintained granted you had sneaked out of the factory a full tool set and had helped your neighbor fix up his while you waited 10 years for yours. West most likely churned out trash of equal quality, but at the end of the day they were 15-20 years behind the what Capitalists were doing.
I daily a Lada from the 80's, it's pretty fun. Parts are cheap here, not that I've needed much.
People bought more of their guns than their cars for a good reason.
Have various Eastern vehicles (UAZ, trabant, Gaz, FSO, fiat 126p, Lada niva.) Just so long as you treat them right and donate about an hour every month to maintenance they'll never let you down.
Parts are far cheaper than anything else on the market and fitting them can be done in minutes.
I regularly see a Mosvitch station from the 60's parked on some street. I really wonder if it still runs.

Id like to take a Lada do some restoration work and a fresh paint job, put it on bags and do an engine swap so I can get new parts easier in the states plus more power.

I would definitely not drive one daily, but they are fun hobby/summer cars.

I've always wanted a 452 breadloaf
Been toying with the idea of picking up a Niva since they were sold here for quite a while and can be bought for peanuts
