Stop owning old shitboxes.
My problem is i love old shitboxes
>>
>>17760680
i am poorfag so i must own old shitbox and i must do all the work myself
>>
My father does that. It feels bad, but I try not to let him help me with my car too much anymore.
>>
>>17760703
my advice
spend a day or two soaking everything in penetrating oil before you work. and buy a torch. also carry a wire brush to remove loose rust from any bolts so you dont round them out. also buy some vise grips
take a day and make a trip to the junkyard for new bolts/fittings for you car before you work on a specific part of it

That's good, though! That means more things to fix, which means you'll level up your repair skills faster.
>>
>>17760867
pretty sure these means I failed the repair and gain no exp

>Try to fix car
>Do fix it but now I can tell something else is wrong and have to take everything apart again

Seriously, this just happened.

>Steering clunking
>See obvious worn out rack bushings
>Replace bushings
>Hear a new clunking
>It's the steering rack itself
>Replace rack
>With tight steering now can feel loose shocks
>Replace shocks
>Now I can tell the car pulls a little
>Bad ball joints
>Replace ball joints and thankfully caught the loose swaybar bushings while I was at it.

I'm ready to set this thing on fire.

Oh god, I owned a 1986 Mercedes 300E that had spent its whole life baking in California sun. Halfway through repairing some minor interior problems I'd broken every single piece of plastic in the car. It was like glass.

Camaro. It all went downhill when i decided i didnt want the V6
>>
>>17761124
Wew. Mine came with a v6 too but thankfully that had already been swapped out. I doubt it was swapped right though, seems like there's a fuel problem
>>
>>17761124

I hope you decided you didn't want a V6 before buying it.

>>17761124

>buys $1000 V6 Camaro car instead of $1500 V8 Camaro to save money
>realizes it's horrible and spends $2500 to swap a V8 in it

Why do people keep doing this?
>>
>>17761138
I wanted a V8, but couldnt afford a V8 car. Then i figured id give the V6 a try, only to find out the engine in it doesnt even work and instead of putting the time and money into fixing it, i decided to just get a V8 out of the junkyard and throw it in there
>>
>>17761150

>>17761168
it all worked out in the end anyways. Found a Big Block in the junkyard and got it for only $600. Im currently in the process of swapping the cam so i can put a dual carb on it and put it in. Im pretty sure ive got a better deal than a stock 305 camaro of the same year

For me, it's always a thing of
>Fix one thing
>Find three or more new things that NEED fix'd

Just recently
>Fixing some erratic electric gremlin in turning lights, must be because they're 22 years old?
>Take out rear lights, inspect and clean them
>Found 3 new rust holes right through the body, along with 2 inches of accumulated dirt that I recognize, it's at least 15 years old
>Need to take off rear bumper
>Bumper is held on by old ass screws that have welded themselves to the car

Beat them a bit, and soaked them in penetrating oil, hopefully that will do. Can't really heat them since they're pretty much enclosed by plastic, so it's oil and bangin' to loosen them, chisel+hammer to bang-torque them out, or drill them away (not very viable though)

Also possibly gotta take off the radiator to have a looksie at the headlights and why they smell like battery acid inside, and why do they have some corrosion and the plastique inside is getting shitty...the list just never stops growing
