So I found a strangely cheap 2003 wrx for sale (2500$) and apart from the usual 203k miles, it also apparently needs a turbo. The car supposedly runs and drives, should i buy it expecting to swap out a 600$ part and have a functional wrx? Also, how bad does maintenance become at this milage?
Heres the craigslist link

It isn't strangely cheap and it's highly unlikely that it just comes down to swapping out a turbo.

You're likely looking at servicing a tranny, replacing the turbo and possibly other items associated with it, headgaskets, timing, ringlands etc. are probably questionable too.

>should I buy someone's ruined 200k mile WRX with a 'blown turbo' and who knows what else wrong with it
You tell me.
I'd say that's strangely expensive.

Former 02 bugeye owner here. I've had several subaru techs tell me that a blown turbo usually means the engine is fucked.

No it's fucking worthless. Buy a mint one poorfag.
It's worth it for the VIN swap.

>Strangely cheap
>Blown turbo as a result of hard driving and boyracing fuckery
>Most likely have other issues as well
You'd be a fool to buy this unless you're really desperate to make a show car or something of the like.
I'd only buy if interior and body were mint, just buy jdm replacement engine or full STI swap

if you can wrench, low ball the hell out of him. If a new turbo is going to cost 600 bucks might as well get a low mile jdm engine. An ej20 can be had for around 1k.
I took a chance on a bugeye with 160k on it. Issues it had was a misfire, leaky valve cover, and a slipping clutch. Paid 3.8k for it and it is turning a bit into a needed child. But i have 210k on the clock now and its reliable. Just maintenance things like tie rods, suspension, and brakes are starting to show their age.
