thinking about buying a used car, maybe a CR-V or something reliable. however, I'm paranoid that these cars in the 150k+ range of mileage are just going to need a transmission repair / replacement or something super costly (I've read these cost 2k+) soon after purchasing the vehicle. thoughts? should I just get a new car or something, the prius v or c looks decent.
Get a manual, all problems solved

how does this solve all problems? it seems that manual cars have the same parts that can go wrong...also I don't know how to drive a manual and don't really have the time to learn. just need to get to work and back.

If you're getting a gen 1 crv, get the manual. I have a 98 autotragic, and you have drive it like a manual on the tree, minus the clutch. Also 4 gears is shit pham.
