Busrider here.
Looking to buy my first car. What do you think of this? I live in MN, and i need to haul some occasional stuff around(not enough to warrant the mpg of a pickup). I also want to look cool. Also it has to be manual, which goes hand in hand with looking cool.
This cherokee has 180k miles on it and hasn't been in an accident from what I can tell. My other options are a bunch of old ford/chevy pickups that'll get like 12 mpg and offer me a huge truck bed to put next to nothing in. Or I could choose from a slew of honda compact death boxes.
Spoonfeed plz.
buy a miata you faggot

you're not going to get a good vehicle for 1500. save up another grand.

Ye of little faith
I picked up a '92 1JZGTE Soarer for $1000, with only minor issues that i fixed the day I bought it.

i dont have the option. also thats bullshit you fuck

Take a look at it and see what you think. Check what you'd check on any other car. Personally I'd jump at the chance to snag a two door manual XJ with the 4.0 I6.

He isn't entirely wrong. The I6 XJ does have a drivetrain whose reliability is certainly legendary; but regardless of how good it is at over 20 years old and 180k miles, you're going to have to know how to work on it.
Is it possible for you to pick this up and it actually be in decent shape? Very well could be, won't know till you drive it. But regardless, you're going to need to become very well farmilar with common problems in these vehicles and how to spot them; that is just par for the course for ANY vehicle of this vintage.
But a final note, if you go look at it and it looks good. I'd recommend it; you could certainly do a lot worse for 1500 USD.

then borrow a grand from family or your parents or some shit.

>tfw Obama's cash for clunkers did this
>tfw the days of the 500$ reliable beater are long gone

A Cherokee mostly likely won't give you any better mpgs than that
