whats the most exciting thing you've done with your car lately?

Drove to Cambridge to computer museum
Shit was cash
Will post pics if wanted
>>
Drove around one of the few twisty roads here in town going 20 over.
That was probably the most fun ive had in my car in at least a month, occasionally reving to 5-6k so i can skip gears while upshifting is a close second.
>>
Did my first burnout
>>
>>17745163
Do it
>>
>>17745154
Fixed it while being stuck miles away from home or having proper tools

Had to figure it out, didn't panic

Got shit done even though it was 100 degrees outside....
>>
>>17745313
im proud of you, anon
>>
Drove like a madman on the highway last night. It's two lanes each way, and we don't have laws against cruising in the left lane, so it was kind of fun having to switch lanes repeatedly at high speeds.
>>
>>17745154
Drove on a twisty road last night with a slight buzz from 2 vodka sodas. Pitch black with brights on the whole time, and I used muh paddle shifters.
>>
Drove to Cave City and back. It died right afterwards.
>>
Got it to run and moved it out of my garage
>>
>>17745154
it was "ran when parked" and now "runs like shit" so I guess that's exciting
>>
>>17745154
Drifted around on a rainy freeway

>wasn't paying attention and going way to fast
>60mph down a 45 to be exact
>realize at last min im going to fast and i need to turn in a 5 yards or so
>pull Ebrake up and turn right
>fucking drift past a guy and in the left lane i turned into then the right lane going forward then back in the left in front of him
>gain complete control back of my car then slow down to a red light
>guy pulls up next to my car and yells "that was an awesome drift"
>play it cool like i did it on purpose
i dont know how to drift i just got fucking lucky
>>
>>17745154

I bought it factory new

The old car shat itself againagain and I had to drive 100 kilometers with no brakes (which was exciting in its own sense)

So I bought a new car (shitbox none-the-less)
>>
Took it to 4k RPM.
WOAH THERE
>>
Driving around the desert pretending I'm a rally racer in my jeep Cherokee.
>>
In a highway with the speed limit of 130kmh I managed to push my shitty yaris hybrid to 180kmh
>>
Drove like it meant something. Some weeks ago accidentally threw and caught the back end on a rainy day to an audience of a transit van. I wonder if they think I did that on purpose
>>
>>17745318
This is what happens when you try to take a pice of shit on an adventure... I was stranded by my turd gen Camaro just last month when visiting family 300 or so miles away. What car stranded you anon?
>>
>>17745154
found it captured three years ago on google maps parked in front of my first job
>>
>>17745154
I drove it yesterday.
>>
Timed a run up and down a small curvy touge-esque hill road at midnight, have yet to do any skids because i'm learning stick shift and it's a new car.
>>
>>17746350
>shit gen
Different anon here
I had a third gen firebird that did that multiple times, the radiator fan was hooked to a switch under the dash. Either always on when the car was on, or always off. Guess the sensor died and last owner was lazy. The fan drained the battery multiple times, took me forever to realize it. By that time the car had almost gotten me killed once
>>
Did a fucking SICK burnout while next to a cop at a red light earlier tonight. He gave me the thumbs up

>he's my step cousin in law or something like that
>he already told me he's mad jealous of my car

He's pretty much told me I'm free to hoon around town as I like so long as I'm sober and am relatively safe. Still felt amazing to just go full WOT next to a cop like that tho

There's a turn coming home from work that a reall wide, really open turn with wide visibility that every fucking grandma takes at 10MPH for no goddamn reason. Im usually stuck behind some shitty cadillac or f150 so I have to granny through it too.

But coming home on Friday it was empty. There was a car behind me but otherwise there was precisely zero traffic, so i took it at 50 (in a 40 zone) and drifted it.

I hope the dude that was behind me went home and told all the 80 year old women in their fucking cadillacs that that is how you fucking drive.

>On my way home from work
>Been raining lightly all day
>get to my own road, big open two lane road in the semi-bush areas outside of Melbourne
>still light out so no kangaroos or wombats, no other cars anywhere
>decide to really test out the grip and control of new car
>100kph+ get a little sideways through the first big corner
>into second, able to hold it for a good two or so seconds
>can't get it to kick out through any other tight corners, despite giving it the beans
>slow back down, turn down my driveway, get inside and have dinner.
was a pretty good day. I'm feeling more and more confident in this car now and getting a better idea of what it really needs me to improve for it.

>whats the most exciting thing you've done with your car lately?
Several days ago, dashcam caught the face and side profile of a black guy walking east from the shopping plaza at night as I was heading home from shopping. He looked north and changed direction and ran across the street in front of me against the light.

I hate that.

I kept on driving east but wondered why the muscular black guy did that. I saw farther down the road and there was a thin white guy alone. With shopping bags walking back to the houses several blocks away. There's a long dark stretch before those houses.

It's a warm night. The black guy raised the hoodie and put it over his head. I didn't bother turning the car around because getting involved causes trouble for me.

But it was a bit exciting knowing my dashcam has footage of a possible suspect for a mugging.

You just have to always be scanning (in front of you and mirrors), watching what cars around you are doing, knowing cars are about to make moves based on driver activity, keep tabs on cars you pass so you know if someone is in your blind spot. Baiku bros have to do this all the time to not die. I try to do it at all times. I havent taken a call, hands free or not, in over a year. Only exception being a family emergency. Absolute focus.

Also:
>Never speed too much on blind hills or corners unless you know the road.

Go to a Meet with KentuckyBro in your STi. See if you can outrun him above 100 while weaving thru occasional traffic. If not, you weren't able to deal with his car. Or you lacked balls to risk dying at going beyond your car's limits.

Cars are one of the few ways we have left to weed out the retards
>>
>>17745820
sorry anon, this is a thread for things that have actually happened.
>>
>>17755566
>weed out the retards
Insurance uses OnStar to obtain info on my car and its usage including the all time max speed it has gone. OnStar Smart Driver even has a separate category display for things such as "Number of times car has exceeded 90 mph". Yes, that is a separate statistic item that can be seen.

So to quote you, "Cars are one of the few ways we have left to weed out the retards". I'm looking forward to when services like OnStar are standard in ALL cars. That will help insurance weed out all the retards. Every time you go above the speed limit, your insurance rate goes up. Every time you go above 70mph, your insurance rate goes up an extra large amount. Each time you go above 80 mph, your rate really shoots up. And for those who go over 100 mph, your rate becomes $1000 minimum per month for minimum liability coverage (no comprehensive or medical). Time to weed out the retards by having mandatory onstar or similar in all cars and motorcycles. If congress passes a new cars for clunkers law, then retards will be stopped by the 2025 law that all cars/bikes must have permanent onboard tracking or will be purchased by the Clunker Cars Commission which gives half KBB value unless you are a jobs provider (corp or wealthy person employing 50 or more employees) whereupon you get full KBB and exemption from income tax. Let's get retards off the road now with 100% mandatory monitoring of all cars.
>>
>>17745820
60mph with rear brakes only in a turn? Your fronts should have broke free. Is that possible? High speed drifting is quite different from low speed drifting. There's a lot more breaking going on.

Many reasons:

1. Full service history in print and writing.
2. 1 Owner from new.
3. It is a 5.0 Supercharged model
4. 39375 miles (2011)
5. Price was good.
6. Proven upgrades and tunes available for low $/hp.
7. Perfect interior that smells and looks new.

That and I have an SDD setup from my last Jaguar. The maintenence is not bad on them if you can turn a wrench and there are few known issues (Water pump, rear pads, tires). I do a lot of highway miles versus city and the ride is superb.

Almost crashed. I drive a saxo with shit tires and attempted to induce lift off oversteer in the rain on a roundabout for some skidding, induced it a bit too much and entered a 4 wheel drift, I couldn't control it and the weight transfer snapped me the other way and I skidded to a halt. As it was late at night I was lucky there was no trafic or I would've been fucked, I was also lucky I didn't collide with any road barriers.

Im a fucking retard and I've felt bad the whole night, I'm disappointed that I drove so shit. I'm glad it happened tho as it will teach me to stop being a retard. I enjoy the odd b road from time to time and drive within my limits but for some reason the wet rain and roundabout made me excited. I'm going to cuck around less on the more 'public' public roads and save it for the twisties. Man I'm so pissed at myself.
>>
>>17762799
>save it for the twisties
Those can be less forgiving. The edge of the twisties is often a steep embankment, so your car may roll over if it touches the slippery shoulder.
>>
>>17763706
True, but the main reason I fucked up was the fact I wanted to oversteer and skid a bit, I just bit off far more than my car and I could handle. With B-roads, I'm attempting to stay within the limits of my car. Plus in the UK, twisties are surrounded by hedges and trees (see pic related, but more curved).

There's a road near where I live which me and my friend go out every night, we know the roads like the back of our hands and I know my cars limits there. It was just a moment of extreme stupidity that I'm glad me and the Saxo recovered from. Thanks for your concern tho kind anon :)

Chase after a minivan that made a left turn from the rightmost lane while very near an intersection. That minivan Brute-Forced its way across all the lanes, forcing everyone to stop or hit it. There was a tall vehicle to my right front blocking view of the minivan as it came across. I was in the left turn lane and that minivan suddenly came in front of me and I had to jam brakes while moving left completely out of the left turn lane. It would have been a collision otherwise as that minivan couldn't see me either as it crossed right across the tall vehicle it forced to come to a stop. Yes, the traffic light to go straight was GREEN all that time! So you can imagine how obnoxious that crossing across was at the light.

I had the horn on for quite awhile and the minivan then ran the red turn light. I pulled back into the left turn lane but was sticking out in the intersection a little. What an ass of a minivan.

Ford can put anti uv chemicals in the plastic but it costs more.

Only the top layer oxidizes so you can polish off the top layer and fix it in about 10 mina.

Highway driving is safest driving next to track ironically. They'd be more interested in how many lights you hit on your commute and what time you drive to work and back and how tired work makes you.

I can't even imagine how much of a fucking loser you'd have to be to actually want this. You ride the bus, right?
You probably want those of us getting laid to be filmed, you know, so the government can "make sure we're being safe" too.
I guess you take comfort in knowing that won't happen to you.

Nah, we all know it's only a matter of time before cars get monitored just like our cellphones already are. But for now, we just want our fantasy of privacy in the car even if we take our non-private cellphones with us on the ride.

Not really bait. It's a parody of what the future might be if we as voters don't pay attention to privacy laws. If the politicians think that the majority don't care, then they can ignore the minority (us) that cares about being tracked. They will then surrender to the anti-privacy police, database, corporate, and insurance lobbyists to collect their donation money and have their relatives and friends hired into sinecure jobs as the legally indirect method of bribery.

Since it's just a shitbox not built for this shit I try to be as smooth as possible while minimizing wear to the car and maximizing speed.

As it is the government can use smartphones reported locations to determine who was at a crime scene at a given time.

Was listening to a morning show and they were talking about how they're capable of tracking patterns in case a crime happens and someone that normally goes through didn't that day. They were discussing as to why just leaving your phone wouldn't work if you were normally there.

We won't have privacy in a few years. I don't want to accept that fact, but it's the truth.

>how they're capable of tracking patterns in case a crime happens and someone that normally goes through didn't that day

The police have gotten search warrants before that allowed them to turn on and listen in to conversations in certain suspects' cars. The microphones are the built-in voice control microphones. Pretty neat.

Even some shopping malls track cellphones of various users. That is used to develop sales data since the mall stores POS (point of sale) machines are all known. So even if the store doesn't release data, the company that runs the data collection for the mall can make an assumption that there was a purchase of "something" in that store.

About five years ago, a mall had negative PR over the privacy issue and said they would stop. But one year later, the mall was doing it again! Wired magazine had an article about it in 2011. The technology must be many times better by now. I bet if someone spends too long in front of some stuff, it could make them look like shoplifters. In the future, it would be neat if the store security was automatically alerted when the store central computer detected statistically strange walking patterns. And if the person ran away, because the cellphone is known, that person's identity is known.

https://www.wired.com/2011/11/malls-track-phone-signals/

My city's downtown area has a number of well-hidden cameras. It also uses cellphone technology to identify people. But the cameras are mainly to identify people who spend too much time in one spot late at night. It's one of the ways they patrol for burglars and it made it tough for the homeless to hide at night. When one homeless guy did a string of arsons, the cameras tracked his path and he was caught. He had a cellphone on him which verified his walking path and how much time he spent at each arson spot.

All homeless seem to be able to afford smartphones & sometimes better than mine. It's a bit annoying to see them with galaxy 6.

Thanks. Spending all my money trying to keep the piece of shit running, so no interesting mods. Cobra-spec steering rack, Cobra shift ball and brake lever, Mach 1 chin spoiler, LED 3d brake light.

De-modding the car as I got it was my first project. PO had replaced everything in the interior with tacky chrome garbage, the same with the gas cap, and it had a big glue-on front body kit.

Took a while to get the interior stock+. GRAY LIKE MY SOUL

If you have him on your dashcam, report it to your state thru its website if it has that feature for reporting people with unsecured loads. My state has various methods including different report webpages for reporting certain types of rule breaking whether it be unsecured loads, fake odometer, HOV lane, littering, etc. If you have a video snippet showing it dropping off, then it becomes substantiated evidence.

Since you're not police, a citation isn't issued, but it goes into the computerized records against that person. So if they get pulled over in the future, the cop (and judges in a court challenge) can see various notes and decide whether or not to max their citation for every separate violation he can.

Some usa cities have integrated systems that take info from cameras, cellphones, and cars. If there is a suspicious person seen by a patrol, the system will try to get data from any cellphone at that location since the phone carried by the person of interest would be enough to identify him.

The next thing is either pulling the core support the rest of the way out or just cutting it off and welding a bar up to support the radiator and hood clasp, I haven't really decided how far I want to go with it yet. I have all the pieces to put it back together except a hood. I have a long-time body guy that stopped by yesterday that said I could just lop-off the whole frontend and tube-chassis it, but that's farther then I want to go I think. I've thought about that, swiss-cheesing everything I can and putting it back together, slapping it back together as-is, or replacing with a support I cut out of another car. Have not decided. Going to try and get a mild cam in it before I get it back on the road, should be mid 500s, then. What a bunch of fucking work.
