How far do you deviate from the oil recommended for your bike? Also will there be any tangible difference between the 10w40 or 10w20 my fz6 recommends?
>>
>>17740735
Too think oil won't flow fast enough to most heat away from important bits, might be too thick to properly fit into places, especially newer machines with tight tolrances. If you lived in the desert, I'd say go to 10w 30 but if you're anywhere reasonable, stick with the recommendation
>>
>>17740735
When it comes to bikes I go with what they recommend. Dont fuck around with weights; bikes use that shit for the gears too (with very rare exceptions) and everything is carefully designed.

So aside from EXTREME conditions, don't deviate. These are not cars.
>>
>>17740629
>I don't mind living I just don't have any social skills

Skills are learned, if you want to be social you have to try ( and fail often ), You'll get better at it and there are 8 billion people to practice on.
>>
>>17740735
I am pretty sure that the higher weight oils are more viscous. So the 10w40 will be thicker than the 10w20 at hotter temperatures.
Therefore don't mix the oil weights unless your engine is clapped out or you live in an extreme temperatures.
I would always run recommended weight, and then choose the oil based off the additives or API scale that the manufacture recommends.

The older you get the more work it takes to maintain friendships because everyone does have to go their own way for work and whatnot. But you do have to keep putting yourself out there as far as situations where you're gonna meet other people. Whatever hobbies you got, thats a start. Got a bike? Do a trackday! Don't wanna do a trackday? Do a group ride! There are all sorts of riders groups, and a lot are brand affiliated. Honda has a really strong community. The old Honda ads are not lying, you meet the nicest people on a Honda :)

What's the etiquette for shoulder riding? It's illegal here, but motorcyclists still do it and the cops don't do anything. At what speed should you remerge with traffic? What do you do when there's a crossroad, do you merge or do what a bicycle would do and stay to the side?

Depends where you live, thinner oils for colder areas thicker oils for hotter areas, 10w40 is thicker than 10w20 so if you live somewhere really cold you would go the 10w20 over the 10w40.
You can not mix 10w20 and 10w40 oils together though.
personally i use motul 7100 10w40
>>
did a 4 hour trip yesterday and my street triple is covered in bug splats and shit

whats the best way to clean em off and clean my bike in general and make it nice and shiny
>>
>>17741327
>10w40 is thicker than 10w20

No no no no...

The first number is cold viscosity. They are both 10, and will flow the same when you cold start the motor.

The second number is hot viscosity. When hot, one is a 20 weight and the other is 40. Unless the manufacturer has a preference, you would generally use the thicker oil (40 wt) as it will lubricate better, maintain better pressure, and form a better hydrodynamic boundary in your bearings.
>>
>>17741348
that sounds more right, im thinking 5w40 vs 10w40 aren't i

Thanks guys. I have a dual sport with big knobbies so debris doesn't bother me. I rode the shoulder today because it's stop and go traffic on a hill with the lane sloping. I found it really difficult to slip the clutch on a hill and still maintain balance with the rode sloping to the side. I figure if I'm going about road cyclist speed and not over 40k/hr, I should be good. I just don't want to be a douchebag.

Did I ever say I was rich? Did I ever say I had a super fast car? No I fucking didn't. I'm a college student with a nice car that is decently quick but nothing special. The reason so many mouth breathing affliction t shirt wearing faggots ride sport bikes is because sport bikes are cheap speed. You go to a dealer and finance a CBR 1000 RR or some shit for barely any cash from your shitty warehouse job, then ride around like a faggot laughing at how you're faster than everyone whilst not maintaining your shit and riding on bald tires. Then you drop it and get road rash and go do drugs or some other shit instead of going to college or having aspirations in life. guys i need help. I've been looking at ninjas for my first bike and the two I've seen have both died while riding. Both were perfect except from what I think were the carbs.

One died when I was test riding and when I gave it throttle I didn't feel anything (running rich I guess?). The other one was sitting and only had 2000 miles, but its obvious the carbs were gunked because we had idle and choke all the way up and it would die on start..

how do I buy a bike being sure the carbs are good? I was gonna offer the guy with the 2k mile bike $1000 and just have the carbs done but I just want to ride >:(

I usually ask them to cold start, let it idle to warm up a little past half way, and have them ride it around for a little, then ask to test ride. Should I do anything else to ensure it won't just die when I buy it? I have buyers anxiety now so i hope i can find some good ones

If the bike has been sitting for more than 6 months without any gas stabilizer the carbs are probably the culprit.
Idle problems are pilot jet being clogged usually,
The dying while running can be a multitude of problems. A proper carb clean can cure most problems for fueling.
Your testing procedure is fine, and the problems of used bikes are what you are experiencing.
There is no true cure unless you know what to look for or spend more money.

get this if the owner has a clean title for it. 07 EXCs came street legal from the factory and the four stroke is better for dual sport usage IMO. the 525 is a hell of a bike for a beginner to handle on the trails but it will still probably be easier to handle than a 250 2-stroke

It has forged wheels. It does not have electronic suspension. This is a 2015 factory I picked up with 800 miles for 8k off MSRP. Have only put on 40 miles so far, and am juuust about to head out for a ride.

Electronic suspension isn't a big selling point for someone as lightweight as me since everything needs to get rebuilt and revalved; I doubt even the fanciest shit can cope and I do not wanna pay out the ass to find out!

Depends on your riding, but usually (for me) 0-40 is what matters most for me, since that's what's relevant on my day-to-day rides. And honestly, for my fat 190lb ass, my 250 is plenty fine on my commute, it's all backroads and twisties until I hit the town center, then it's a series of stoplights. If you plan on taking highways with any regularity, don't consider a 250 at all. They are great in town and on backroads, and different bikes are different, but most are happiest around 40-50mph cruising speed. Also 85 MPG is the worst I have gotten on my 15-year old, carbed 250 v-twin cruiser. I usually get like 95-100mpg.

500 or a 650 might work better for you if you plan on using highways.

Approx 110mph on the freeway. Must've locked the rear when a hyundai pulled out in front of me without indicating. Lowsided and tumbled for long enough to take a nap. Bike's fine since it just slid unimpeded. Ive got rash on my arms, left leg and upper back
>>
>>17743125
Should have been wearing gear, rich boy
>>
>>17743134
I was, but not all of it. Had I been wearing my jacket I'd have walked away with a dislocated thumb and a bit of rash on my leg. Banged my head on the tarmac about 5 times and my AGV ate all of it like a pillow...and my gloves are totaled. Tall touring boots kept my feet perfectly safe.

But yeah I'm buying a full leather suit asap.

>The disadvantages of shaft-drive are that it is a lot heavier than a chain and absorbs more of the engine’s power before it reaches the rear wheel compared to a chain system.

>A shaft-drive can also change the action of the rear suspension - when the throttle is opened and closed quickly the bike can rise and squat because the shaft is trying to “climb” the cog on the back wheel.
>>

Exploding shafts happen, especially on higher power (read: fun) bikes

By white people very well. By blacks sometimes poorly. They wear bullet proof vests and have police protection when working in black areas. Also people sometimes are not in a right state of mind when injured or having seen a family member injured. One of the first things they taught us in the Community Police Forum was scene control that people do crazy things. I would say you will be fine but I can`t say wear you will be working. I would look for a South Africa Paramedic forum and ask there for best results.
