FCPD is pretty well financed and as a result, crown vics are almost completely gone from the force, mostly Taurus SHOs now and the occasional tahoe/explorer. They look almost the same in almost the entire country because of a harmonisation agreement between almost all states. Bavaria is a special snowflake and insists on continuing to use green and silver (background: German police cars used to be green and white). Some states/departments will use Mercedes or BMW wagons, rarely Opel. Autobahn police will use higher powered versions of said models. Departments in large cities may use Golfs and such. But I think the Passat is easily the most common one overall.

I've seen them use them a couple of times to push broken cars off the road if they're in a dangerous situation instead of waiting for a tow truck. They're also useful if you have to box someone in who's trying to drive away. Cops also get into accidents about as frequently as anybody else, I'm sure the bars help with fender bender damage.

Even if there's only 5 or 10 times the car might legitimately need the push bars over its life, the bars are cheaper than a repaint or bodywork every time.

City police mostly drive Caprices like >>17739758 with the occasional Explorer. County police mostly drive Explorers with the occasional Taurus. TN state troopers almost exclusively drive Crown Vics with like, one or two Tauruses.

County are the worst of the three. City and state cops have always been very kind, courteous and respectful in my experience. County are full blown RESPECT MUH AUTHORITY I AM THE FUCKING LAW. I even had a county cop arrest me for a class C misdemeanor once (fucking dog at large). Not because I didn't pay a fine or anything, he just immediately jumped to arrest. Fuck county cops.
