Is there a more reliable, better looking, tougher, better mileage, smoother ride vehicle that exists in its class ('80s-'00s SUVs)?

I've thought about the LX470, is that better than an XJ overall?

I've read non-lifted XJs can get in the 20mpg combined area, which is awesome IMO

XJ is a cheap decent car but has many, many flaws. Shit parts, manufacturing, engineering, design flaws. But you can find them everywhere for dirt cheap now and build them for less than almost any other platform. Any Toyota, Lexus, or Nissan product of the same age is better in almost every way.
