I just looked at the 2018 model and they made the front even more pinched. Not that cool, 2017 is easier on the eyes.
Why oh why did they make larger areas of the fairings grey instead of green? Looks like shit 2bh, I want my bikes either colourful with black or white to emphasize lines, or completely greyscale.

Still, I wouldn't really classify the ones as cafe. It's more of a trend of style. Even not sport bikes looks a bit edgy and racey.
Cafe was more of a sense of taking something that wasn't sport or race like and making it so.
These sport bikes are meant to go on the track, whether the owners do that or not.

Or maybe they look the way they do because that is what's necessary to achieve the desired performance. Café racers were for posers.

A Fireblade looks like it does because it is an actual road legal race bike.

Or do you also think that dual sport bikes are café racers?

Café racers, like a anon pointed out a few minutes ago, were average bikes that were customized to LOOK like race bikes. All style and no substance.

The Ninja 1000 from the beginning of the thread that you stupidly called a café racer was designed by engineers, not attention whores. The fairings, handlebars, suspension, etc all are there for function and not form.

Now give me another (you), faggot.
>>
>>17720216
And why did manufacturers start producing bikes like that?
Because people were modding their bikes like that. The demand was there. So the supply was built.

They literally evolved because of cafe racers. You can see the changes in them through the years. Go follow the honda CBs and watch them turn into CBRs.
Its blatant

>post in a dead thread

Well you guys may have a gripe but I'm making an electric bike out of a Gear Bike(mountain bike). Pic related of the stuff, will cost upwards of 700 if I'm lucky. I know a beater bike gas would cost me that but it's higher insurance and won't legally allow me to use any of the 40 Mountainbike trails around here. Will be capable of 60mph flat if I use pedal assist with the highest gear ratio bike version.

Bike ends up about 35-45 pounds depending on battery size I go with.

So my questions.
Does this make me an idiot or fit me in with an idiot genre with bike folks?

Should I just buy a stupid moped and build a stupid bike? (Convince me)

Bear in mind, this is to and from work vehicle, uphill after a 9 hour day is stupid and fuel here is 3 dollars at best/gallon. I want this vehicle to be fun if I'm ditching 200+ I may as well make it a project.

Don't buy All Balls bearings, they are crap. Go OEM.

You can pound the old ones out carefully with a punch and a hammer, switch sides on the same bearing often so you don't get them cocked in there sideways as they are coming out.

Put the new bearings in the freezer for a few hours and before you go to drop them in heat up the hub with a heat gun or propane torch ( just enough for a drop of water splashed at it to sizzle ) and then drop the bearings in, they should damn near fall in. Get a big socket almost the size of the outside diameter of the bearing put it on top and give it a good whack or two with a hammer. It'll sound solid when the bearing is fully seated rather than a kind of " tink tink " sound.

I was excited at first since she said she had riding experience in the past.
Questioned her for a bit and found out she only got a permit and has no fucking idea what she's doing.
I told her to take the MSF class and then come back, I'm hoping she fails because she seems kind of dumb. I'm worried if she passes and I sell her the bike she fucking kills herself on the freeway or something.

in Cali you are were required to take the test if you were under 21 iirc(might have been 24)
It had one of the most "impactful" surveys that basically said, how often do you think people fuck up and those fuck ups cause you to make emergency lane changes etc.
I thought the answer was "a lot."
As I've gotten older and driven more defensively I can say, I can now read most "body language" of cars and I am very aggressive with controlling my space. I don't believe I have had a single well I didn't expect that in 3+ years. As such I think maybe I can do it now.

Well, I feel like I might have come across similarly to the guy I bought my sv from, he said he was a little worried about me cause I looked like I was scared to sit on it (and later, when I bought it, to ride it up a 20 deg driveway into garage). And my hair looks very hippy. But I'm still alive 300 miles later and loving it.
Then again I did
>Mention I passed MSF
>Mention have licence
>Autistically inspect bike with checklist in hand
>Do a lot of research about paperwork beforehand so I anticipated every single thing that needed to happen including details of county laws on emission inspections
I should really text him up with a pic of bike once I get her all cleaned up and tuned so he knows she's doing all right; he said he didn't expect to sell it he liked it so much while he had it, but upgraded to an FZ9 and with his brother's bikes the garage musical chairs got to be too much.

MSF course in US is $120 if you're 21 and under, over it's $250.
Closed track, written test, 10 hours of riding and riding test including everything you've listed.
After you pass you just take the certificate of completion and you get your license.

The alternative route is to take the DMV written test for $25 permit and ride around the streets til you're confident enough and pass the DMV riding test.

But I dont see how a sportbike is for posers unless you're a narrow minded nu motorcyclist that thinks a bike needs 80 gallons of hard panniers and adventure styling to be useful, like sportbike sub frames can't hold more than 20lbs of shit and magically reject all bungee cords, racks don't exist unless pre-fabbed by givi for the same cost a welder would charge, and that you need an MX suspension to go over a somewhat slightly rough road. >Everyone who rides bikes without trying hard to be street rossi around every blind, public, gravel covered corner says you can start on most anything with low end torque as long as you can put a foot down and afford to keep it in good shape, and to do track days/take classes if you want to be an extreme rider, or at least just take it slow
>/dbt/ and sportbike forums insist that the only way to be a good rider is to get a 250/300 and treat that somewhat curvy residential street three miles down from your house like a racetrack by taking its otherwise gentle corners and turning them mean and lean by going your shitbike's top speed of 80mph through them and trying not to lose the slightest bit of momentum

Who's right?

>>17721740
Nothing is straight because you think it looks straight

Use/borrow a runout gauge for the forks and axle. There are factory manufacturing tolerances in your service manual. Anything outside of that was caused in a crash and is outside the working tolerance, so will affect the usefulness of the part.
Use common sense to measure from various points on the frame to the headstock. I don't think there are any official tolerances but it shouldn't be insanely off. The tolerances for the forks and shit are already pretty small so assume the worst.

Neither, really. Arguably, if you absolutely spank a small capacity bike and push it to the limits, you'll learn more in a shorter time than someone on a big bike who's still nervous of the power and lacks the confidence to push on. But there's no reason you can't learn the same on a track which is much safer and more responsible.

What makes me laugh though, Is Burgers make fun of Eurocucks for starting on a 125 then recommend people start on a 250. WOOOOOW so much more power. It's still a why even bother tier bike.

>>17722219
Crash likelihood goes down as the amount of time you have owned a particular motorcycle goes up. It's pretty common knowledge. It applies to small bikes too, but those crashes are usually really simple parking lot drops and front brake locking because there's not a lot you can do to crash a bike with very little power, and not a lot associated with the bike psychologically there for you to think of trying. Logically, you'd be more likely to crash the big bike because there are more ways to can easily cause it to crash. Accidental wheelies, highsides, nerves impairing rider ability, running wide from giving the bike too much power, etc.

Sadly you can't get a source because motorcycle crash statistics are shit and separate bikes into cruisers of 1001+cc and japscrap of 1000cc or less

Ehhhh, way too forward for touring IMO. Seat is nice though.

Can happen on both types of bikes and therefore can be ignored when comparing them.

>>
>>17722271
What's even your point? If anything you're illustrating how >>17722246 is correct because it's way easier to go too fast on a liter peter, making you more likely to crash than on a small bike.

>all that over revving
>>
>>17722237
why don't they just close it for an annual road race already?

nobody is willing to open an affordable road course of appreciable quality so it's essential to give risk takers a means to scratch their itch instead of going full mom and saying "grow up and stop endangering yourself i don't want you to die ;_;". ameriburgers love their cheap ovals and drag strips and running them at $20 a pop....and also paying $200+ for several total hours of actual track time.
>>
>>17722536
>he can't quick shift the post
>>
>>17722552
Over-revving stresses your clutch and gears beyond what's necessary while you gain no time -- in fact, you lose time as the revs have to go DOWN to match the wheel speed once the clutch is let out again. Ideally you want to do clutchless shifts, i.e. roll of the throttle just slightly so there is no force being transmitted between chain and rear sprocket, get into gear, roll throttle on again.

Ive got a Derbi terra 125cc and after my holiday which lasted 2months the ignition button (electric start button) made no Solund. It got no reaction and now i have to run start it everytime. Anyone know WhatsApp wrong? Im an idiot btw

there are like 10 anime girls learner bike riders, i can think of 5 off the top of my head, the white and red one, that victorian, the other victorian with a red/white one, the blue/white one and the black one.
>>
>>17722799
Hey newbie, literally 50% of the Euros on /dbt/ 3 years ago had GS 500s, there's a reason it became the biggest meme bike. It still hasn't been eclipsed by anything except maybe the SV 650, except that one is actually a good bike and wasn't memed to hell and back.
There is only one Aussie poster pretending to be different people.
