Anything you're up to at the moment?

I just finished removing the whole interior of my 156 so I can start welding the floor rust. I also plan to stance it by about 20 mm.
It's deregistered at the moment, because this will be kind of a big project.

I got a Toyota just for using until I am finished. But I started missing my Alfa about 2 weeks into driving it. So I'm borrowing my fathers 159 at the moment. pic related

I wish. I was thinking about buying a delta hf turbo, an integrale is prohibitly expensive, a good one is even more expensive

In the meantime Im force to drive a lancia ypsilon. Please forgive me Vincenzo Lancia.

Hearing about Chinese wanting to buy fiat I was almost glad, maybe they will resuscitate the brand, fiat is letting it rot like autobianchi, nevertheless it's a 110 year old brand, with lots of history behind it. I cannot see why they decided to bet all on Alfa and nothing on Lancia in the 90ies, and its not like in those times Alfa had some good cars, quite the contrary

It's partially true, they have no money for them ATM but you have to consider that apart from the rally heritage Lancia is not as recognisable as Alfa Romeo worldwide, also its reputation is bad in some countries like UK (Lancia ypsilon there is sold as Chrysler).

HOWEVER, Lancia is developing a specialty car like the 4C, maybe a new stratos.

They want to keep the brand alive so they can revive it, they just need to understand how.

I'd go full Italian Lexus, aka style and luxury above the rest but with hybrid and electric engines.

Yes I know...

I did kinda the same driving a Lexus myself in Italy, they're niche cars, and I can safely say that I'm satisfied because the car suits my needs and also is very recognisable.

It may not have a "real" gearbox or a punchy engine but I'm also satisfied since I have in return 23 to 25 km/l consumptions and the engine is good memes aside. Consider that here the most selling engine for premium hatchbacks are fucking 1.6 Diesel with 110 hp and Mercedes with the A Class uses a Renault Diesel as entry level engine and my CT is even faster outside the 0-100.

Having said that, when Alfa Romeo will release the new rwd premium Giulietta based on Giorgioâ„¢ Platform, I'll go for that since the Giulia is too big for me.

It would look awesome without a plate. But Alfas are already way better looking than cars where the plate is mounted in the middle, on the left just looks way better.
Some people here in Switzerland just put their plate behind their windshield (mostly Audi drivers), but I don't think it's worth it, as it doesn't look very good behind the windshield either. Our plates (Wechselnummer) can be removed and used for two cars. Most people have a standard black plastic frame. But what I like and have on my cars are the older style chrome frames.

This is what the Lancia Thema 8.32 did. Fantastic car.
A Thema with a Ferrari V8 equipped with the finest leather and wood you could get. It even has an active, electrically controlled spoiler.
You can get it for 8-15k$ here in Switzerland. But you need to replace the timing belt every 20k KM which requires the engine to be taken out completely. It also requires some special spare parts.

The Thema 8.32 probably has been the apex of Lancia Luxury, it was the best supersedan ever when it was on sale.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHnyFsaxWsY

I read a book about Lancia's history and when talking about the Lancia Thema 8.32 it was written that the engineers and designers wanted a car that was so luxurious that the hands of the driver/passenger would only have touched premium materials everywhere in the cabin.

It was true since that car was way better made and more luxurious than a same year Mercedes.

Oh no, the Americans are here. I had a Toyota for exactly two weeks before I got rid of it. They're very good cars, sure. But they're absolutely boring(Notable exceptions being: Chaser, Crown, Soarer, Supra, MR2).
What's the point of having one car forever, if it's not special. This either means you view your car as a mere mode of transportation or you can't afford anything other, so you have to ruin it for everybody, just because poor Cleetus can't afford anything other than a 2004 Tundra. This is a car enthusiasts board for people who have a deeper relationship to their cars rather than just seeing them as a utility.

>Well post it boi
I dun have pictures, and It's late so I wont go out to make any

It's 1998 Y 1.2 16V in the same colour as in the picture, with creamy alcantara interior.

I got It in 2015 for some 120$ and honestly It's the best shitbox I ever owned. I had some electricity problems but after that got fixed it's gud
It had 99k done by the previous owner and I've bumped it to 114k in like 15 months.

It has 86 hp and weighs like 900 kg so it's faster then you would expect. Factory claim 176 km/h top speed, but there are movies on you tube it finishing the spedometer, I did like 150 and got kinda scared since the tires are shit. Also engine redlines over 7k, and at 5k it just gets a kick like old vtec. funny shit

Build quality inside is out of the planet. Nothing you would expect in this class. I want to swap into something FR so I'm not investing into it, but as shitboxes go it's amazing

that is literally 335i/335d money.

shitty ones start at 10k, okay examples 12-15k
>>
Obviously you retarded autists have only the starting price in mind.

13k € for a "335i" and that's it, You have the car in the garage.

Now here comes the insurance, the fuel, the tyres, the ordinary maintenance, and pray god that it doesn't happen something under the "extraordinary" maintenance category or you'll be bankrupt.

Meanwhile the sensible adult who's not manchild and is aware of his economic situation decides that a 13k Fiat Punto is the perfect choice for his budget and he'll be able to cover all the future expenses being also able to pay his food and the rent at the end of the month

Pretty much this.
Especially the 335d will be just as good on gas as the 1.9 liter GT and the M57 is a million mile engine while pushing ~330hp with an ECU flash.
Also the interior is better made and would outlast any FCA product.
Oh and on top of that it can be had RWD or AWD, with perfect 50/50 weight balance

My car is actually 20k new. But yeah, bought it for 14k. Not that it matters tho, since this was about an Alfa.
But yeah, it's hate and memes essentially.
My car is about 70k and no issues whatsoever. Nothing rattles, nothing broke. It's a little fun and reliable car. Couldn't ask for more.

The 1.9 diesel on that Alfa is more reliable than anything BMW ever made.

Point is, Fiat is as reliable as any other brand nowadays. The memes are just that: memes.
Even then, Fiats were usually pretty reliable engine-wise. Save for the headgasket issue on the 1.2s.
>>
>>17739744
Like what one anon said earlier, the engines have never been a huge problem, it's just that for a while a few decades back the car had a tendency to rust out from under the engine.

Any BMW inline 6 ever made is built for 500k-1 million km, especially the diesels.
Lots of 600-700k km BMWs on autoscout24 while the highest mileage Alfas are at around 400-500k km.
No need to lie to yourself, even though the severely understressed fca 1.9 liter can go pretty far a BMW 6 cyl can go way further while pushing twice the power.

The Fiat Panda is the most selling car in its class in Europe, but yeah, it achieved this status by being unreliable because people who are tight on budget usually love to spend for having their car constantly fixed isn't it?

One day you'll tell us what Fiat did to (you)
>>

Fiat Panda competes with toy cars like the new Twingo, Volkswagen UP, Peugeot 108, literally the cheapest shit of all shitboxes, lmfao congrats italishills.

Anyone have an alfa 147 or a mito? They look cool but I dont know anyone with an alfa and I don't know how they are with maintenance/general reliability
>>
>>17743117
No idea about the petrol 147s, but the diesels are bulletproof.
Any engine on the Mito is reliable.
>>
>>17743139
Good to hear, there are a few relatively cheap 147s near me in very good condition.
Was tailing a mito the other night in a mountain pass and it looked super fun, the round taillights and break lights really caught my eye, out of my budget atm but a man can dream.
>>
>>17743149
Man, if you can get a 147 1.9 JTD 150hp Q2 (or even if it isn't the Q2) go for it. It's an amazing car.
As for the Mito, what engine are you interested in? If you're going for a diesel, try to get a 1.6. The 1.3 is pretty swift (it's the one I have on my car), but the 1.6 is a whole different world of torks.
As for petrol, avoid the 1.4 N/A. Go for the turbo.
>>
>>17743164
out of curiosity, what's amazing in the 147 or mito?
All of the diesel models are slow as fuck, a 1990 BMW 325i would outpace the 1.9 JTD, they're all front wheel drive and all are tiny and cramped.
I don't see how is it more ''amazing'' that a 1.9 diesel Golf or something.
>>
>>17743200
My teeny tiny Punto has as much torks as a 325i.
A 147 1.9 JTD has a 170hp version with 330Nm. It outpaces a 325i even in pure power. Not to mention it has 100 more torks.
It's also a newer car (therefore safer), prettier and is way less prone to be a moneypit. And you won't look like a poor douchebag.

>front wheel drive
Yeah, you're not racing. It's a daily driver.
Plus the Q2 has a mechanical diff.
>>
>>17743164
>150hp Q2
Meant 170hp.
>>
>>17743200
Not that anon in europe fwd isnt really considered a bad thing because pretty much all cars are like that except for bmws and a few others, people dont think of it as an option I guess and for daily driving it is no issue at all, fwd cars can be fun too, especially light cars.
For the bmw part 80s and 90s bmws are pretty expensive to mantain (unless you live in germany or adjacent countries I assume) parts are expensive and those cars hava a ton of little things that break, living in southern europe its just not viable for a poorfag to get a bimmer, my brother got memed into one and it spends more time in the shop than being driven and he opens it with a screwdriver because the key electrical system is fucked, the fucker now borrows my shitbox, everyone shittalks my 75hp 90s fiesta but it never let anyone on foot
>>
>>17743218
do you know a car with 330 nm and 170hp is still going to be a lot slower than a 325i lmao do you think torque is some kind of magic thing
>>
>>17743234
>goes off the line faster because more torks

>>17743243

>>
>>17743241
oh youre talking about like a 95 325i then yes its also a lot heavier lmao. you realize any post 2003 or something 325i is going to rape a 147. btw i love italian cars hey
>>
>>17743247
The 147 1.9 is actually lighter than a 1995 325i.
Google it.
>>
>>17743257
yes obviously a car thats a sector bigger is heavier its obviously what i meant.
>>
>>17743261
Never said it wasn't an higher segment, but my point still stands.
>>
>>17743268
of course it still stands. although a modern 320d is going to rape a 147 both in the twisties and on the straights nowadays. i drive a 160 hp scirocco and a 520d wagon (1880 kg ca) sticks to the road almost like mine.

>>
>>17743316
*320D
>>
>>17743218
just looked it up, the 170hp version is on par with the 1990 325i, both do 0-100 in 8 seconds flat.
But I'm pretty sure that for the money of a 170hp Alfa 147 you can get a nice, clean e36 328i which would be even faster - 0-100 in about 6.8 - 7.0 seconds
It would be worse for fuel economy but at least it would have that classic inline 6 sound
>>
>>17743415
0-60 times are irrelevant in the real world. What really matters is how hard you can accelerate to overtake someone.
>>
>>17716208
Are Fiat Punto's shit cars? Why are they so cheap? I've heard they're really boring to drive compared to other hatchbacks.
>>
>>17743313
Doesn't Hamster daily a 500 and May own a Panda?
>>
>>17743474
yeah but 0-60 times usually reflect on overtaking times too.
For example the 2015 Alfa Giulietta 1.4 170hp does 0-100 in 8 seconds and 80-120 kph in 5.4 seconds while the 1995 E36 328i does 0-100 in 7 seconds and 80-120 kph in 4.7 secs.
>>
>>17743164
>1.9 JTD
If you are a monster and dont care about the enviroment you can chiptune those (the 16v ones so JTDm) to 250hp for like 160$
>>
>>17743667
>tfw my 159 2.2 with 185hp does 0-100 in 8.8s.................
>>
>>17743164
Can confirm the 1.4 turbo is a fun little engine. Plenty of response and it makes all the right noises.
>>
>>17743667
why is the difference in the 0 to 60 so much smaller than the 80 to 120 kph ?
I take it from this that the bmw makes its power later

more concern to me that passing prestige is average rpm or at least the minimum amount required to move
>for a normal 1.6 to 3.0 L car
800 idle
1000 to 3000 taking off
5000 to 6000 POWERRRR
7000+ ??? no more power only noise now

>some 50 cc scooter with a fat dude on it
12000 rpm just to start moving
then in spite of gear changes neither the engine goes slower nor the scooter any faster

of course some cars have an extra tall final gear
.eg that gear ratio could do 180 kmh with more power and rpm in the engine
but its made just to make 100 or 130 kmh bearable in terms of cooling and noise
>>
>>17743117i
MiTo owner here, go for MY 2014 or after, (slightly) better interiors and overall build quality. Engines are fine, turbo lpg is clever if petrol is pricey where u live, if not go for everything 135hp+.

I drove a Fiat 500 rental car once.

I'd probably only own it as a fourth car for runabout stuff. That way I don't care as much when it shits out on me.
