What's stopping you from driving a Porsche 911?
>>17715839
not owning one
Even if i had the money I could never spend that much on a 6 cylinder that sounds that bad.
shitty turd world cunt
>>17715839
i don't want one
and quite frankly they're for idiots who are just learning how to have money, i'd spend it on something more interesting and f u n instead.
I dunno, never really wanted one that bad desu.

>>17715839
Nothing, but why would I want to?
>>17715868
What type of public transport do you have to take to think a 911 isn't fun
>>17715839
I can't afford.
>>17715868
>And quite frankly they're for idiots who are just learning how to have money.
That is a strong generalization. I'd say that statement would be true if you were talking about Lamborghini.
I'm also assuming you probably can't afford one. So if you had that type of money what car would you get? Mr. "I'm better than people with New Money"?
>i'd spend it on something more interesting and f u n instead.
You've probably never driven one. Especially on a track so again your statement is invalid.
>>17715889
dude probably drove one in Forza Horizon and was like "yeah I don't like Porsches"
>>17715839
997.2's are still a bit too expensive for me

they don't even come up for sale much
They're not at all popular here so the used market is very competitive and thus overpriced.
I'm sure they're great, but there's better out there for less, so literally why?
porce
If I manage to get my life together there's a good chance I'm buying a 996.

>>17715839
Because Porsche means Poser in German
>>17715914
That's funny, because I drove one in Forza Horizon and now I love Porsches, but mostly the Salamander bodies
>>17715839
Can you still get one with a manual? Last I checked they were all switching them over to DCTs, which means you're either spastically flipping paddles or just letting the computer shift for you.
I think I'd want some training and track time first, that snap oversteer. They're not exactly the safest cars to drive if you don't know what you're doing...
Being a poor fucking nigger
How reliable are 997's? I'll be making 70k annual soon, could I daily a 911?
>>17717539
For a sports car, very reliable. Especially the facelift models, since they have a completely new engine that doesn't have a failure-prone IMS bearing anymore.
>>17715839
It's not a Mopar.
Corvairs are better
>>17715868
lol that's Audi and lower BMWs/Mercs, not Porsche
>>17715839
How much would a used late model 911 depreciate? I've been thinking about buying one because recently I've been making good money but I don't want to throw a ton of money away by buying something expensive that's going to depreciate like hell.

Unless you are driving a turbo 911 from the 80s/90s you don't need to worry about snap oversteer. Newer Porsche have all the nannies so you don't kill yourself.

Even without electronics, the geometry and anti-roll-bar set up discourages snap oversteer these days

Their sports cars are their most reliable models and Porsche as a manufacturer is near Lexis in terms of reliability
Not surprising since Toyota helped overhaul Porsche's manufacturing process in the 90s, it's how they could offer the Boxster for half the price of the 911 and still make money

Still too expensive. Thought about it around a year ago. The only one in my price range is the 996 and I'm not the biggest fan of those. Once the 997/991 come down in price I'll reconsider.
Pic mostly unrelated but it is my dreamboat
>>17718103
997 is just a 996
>>17718111
997.1 is pretty much a nicer 996, 997.2 has a completely new engine and is the first to get the PDK.
Too hard to find a 997.2 s manual coupe at the moment.
>base model Carrera/Carrera S/C4S optioned out to cost as much as a GT3
LITERALLY FUCKING WHY
WHY DO THEY DO THIS?
This is on par with a V6 Mustang costing as much as a GT350. What possesses a buyer to do this? Is the Porsche options catalogue THAT enticing?

is pretty good car. just prepare for repair costs. yearly maintanance is only marginally more expensive than regular sport cars. tire bill is expensive. parts are expensive but plentiful still, there were many 996 made and more none oem options than the classics. plus they outperform any previous generation 911. can be had for 10-15k.

I decided to opt for an Evo instead.
I seriously toyed with the idea of a 996/997. Specifically a Carrera 4 or 4S.
But in the end I went with the Evo X because I've always wanted one, and it's kind of a dream car for me. I still like the 997's a lot, and I think once I'm done with the Evo I will finally get one. At this point I'm still relatively young, so I figure the 997 will be a good 'turning 30' car when I get there.
>>17715839
I fear I'm not cool enough to pull one off. I drive a m3 because of this.
>>17723082

>>17715839
I worry about spoiling myself
with widespread use of hybrid and self-driving tech on the horizon, I think it's a real possibility the best cars the world will ever see are 911s that have already been made or are currently in production
I don't want to have no way to upgrade
Am I the only one that really liked the more aggressively styled headlights on 996's? I find 991's and 997's look kinda too "happy" from the front.
>>17723306
Like 70% 911 chassis from the door latch to the front and everything behind is mid engine perfection
>>17723433
On base models they look kinda odd, with the rest of the car being all rounded and soft.
The more vents, wings and splitters get added, the better they look in my opinion. The GT2 is easily the best looking 996.
Semi-related, it feels almost like the 959 was supposed to have early 996 headlights. Look at the shape of the flat part around the headlights.

GT3RS and GT4 belong in their own class since they're stripped down track cars, a bit too uncomfortable for daily use. You should just get an M2 if you can't afford a cayman gts.

Got drunk with my roommate last night, we had a discussion about 911s, and how the enthusiast market hates new Porsches and are buying up third party air-cooled recreations from Singer, RUF, and RWB instead. Ended up poorly shooping this somewhere down the line, trying to give the new 911 an older aesthetic. Thoughts?

Money.
1. The purchase cost is high.
2. The cost of insurance is high.
3. The cost of maintenance is high.
4. They're so expensive to repair that I'd be too worried to drive it as hard as they should be driven.
5. I love street drifting, having the weight of the engine in the rear makes it too easy to spin out and/or snap oversteer in an undesirable manner..
I have a '95 Miat that I bought for $2,200 - a much better choice except for straight-line speed.
