That is a strong generalization. I'd say that statement would be true if you were talking about Lamborghini.

I'm also assuming you probably can't afford one. So if you had that type of money what car would you get? Mr. "I'm better than people with New Money"?

>i'd spend it on something more interesting and f u n instead.

You've probably never driven one. Especially on a track so again your statement is invalid.

Can you still get one with a manual? Last I checked they were all switching them over to DCTs, which means you're either spastically flipping paddles or just letting the computer shift for you.

I think I'd want some training and track time first, that snap oversteer. They're not exactly the safest cars to drive if you don't know what you're doing...

How reliable are 997's? I'll be making 70k annual soon, could I daily a 911?
>>
>>17717539
For a sports car, very reliable. Especially the facelift models, since they have a completely new engine that doesn't have a failure-prone IMS bearing anymore.

Unless you are driving a turbo 911 from the 80s/90s you don't need to worry about snap oversteer. Newer Porsche have all the nannies so you don't kill yourself.

Their sports cars are their most reliable models and Porsche as a manufacturer is near Lexis in terms of reliability
Not surprising since Toyota helped overhaul Porsche's manufacturing process in the 90s, it's how they could offer the Boxster for half the price of the 911 and still make money

I decided to opt for an Evo instead.

I seriously toyed with the idea of a 996/997. Specifically a Carrera 4 or 4S.

But in the end I went with the Evo X because I've always wanted one, and it's kind of a dream car for me. I still like the 997's a lot, and I think once I'm done with the Evo I will finally get one. At this point I'm still relatively young, so I figure the 997 will be a good 'turning 30' car when I get there.

On base models they look kinda odd, with the rest of the car being all rounded and soft.
The more vents, wings and splitters get added, the better they look in my opinion. The GT2 is easily the best looking 996.

Semi-related, it feels almost like the 959 was supposed to have early 996 headlights. Look at the shape of the flat part around the headlights.

>Carrera<Cayman GTS <Carrera S< Turbo < Turbo S < GT3 < 918

GT3RS and GT4 belong in their own class since they're stripped down track cars, a bit too uncomfortable for daily use. You should just get an M2 if you can't afford a cayman gts.

There's nothing wrong with the 996 interior, it's functional and well built. Ethan's example was fucking cancer

The yellow trim stripes and all the stuff on/around the cluster are a bit much and that fucking satnav unit is terrible, but other than that I've seen worse.

Extended leather package is just fucking cool. EVERY surface you can touch is wrapped in leather.

I like the Porsche 912 better. It's a shittier car but damn is it better than the 911s of that period. Also corvairs are better than older Porsches until the glorious 930 and 964.

If you can't afford a 964 now, you never will.

They are very reliable, but upkeep cost is higher due to expensive oil change.. like other luxury high-end cars.

Porsche has a lawful right to do it because they are best. Meanwhile, they are laughing all the way to the bank.
Richfags probably think they are worth it, but they are very happy with their purchase.
rich chad's car - reliable, fast, sexy, chick magnet...

Oil changes are so expensive because they need like 10 litres of oil. But the intervals are also like every 15k miles

They're the shittiest of all 911s so that's cool.
Why do you think people are converting them to Singers in the first place?

>>
>>17725561
If an oil change like that is going to break your bank, perhaps a high end sports car isn't for you.
>>
>>17723263
But only if you pay to have the dealer service the car? Let me guess, an oil change costs $500?
>>
I live in washington and don't want to have to own two cars. I already own a forester and a bike.

If anything I'd replace the honda with a ducati. An 899, not an 1199. Muh corners.

GT3 RS is the track toy. GT3 is fine for a daily.
>>
>>17728394
Expensive is relative. They're still under $100 if you do it yourself with proper synthetic and overpriced cartridge filters

They get cheaper in the long run when you get an adapter to use a spin on filter
>>
>>17728441
It really isn't if you've actually compared it to anything nice. Hell even compared to a 911 Turbo
>>
>>17728453
You can spec a regular GT3 to be pretty fucking nice, and the suspension isn't overly hard.
It's better suited for weekend duty obviously, but it's still viable as a daily.
>>
>>17728458
It really isn't, the Turbo rides much nicer

Also lol no AC unless the original buyer whet out of their way to add it
>>
>>17728463
Carrera - sports car
Turbo - grand touring
GT3 - super car
RS - track car

You can daily a GT3 but yeah, a Turbo or Carrera S would be nicer.

Money.

1. The purchase cost is high.
2. The cost of insurance is high.
3. The cost of maintenance is high.
4. They're so expensive to repair that I'd be too worried to drive it as hard as they should be driven.
5. I love street drifting, having the weight of the engine in the rear makes it too easy to spin out and/or snap oversteer in an undesirable manner..

I have a '95 Miat that I bought for $2,200 - a much better choice except for straight-line speed.

Fuck I might even keep the evo and buy a Cayman as well. Now wouldn't that be fun.
